Louisiana Representative surprised that "religious" also means Muslim
So she was all for school vouchers for private religious schools until she realized that included Muslim schools. She is not so happy now. *shaking head*
For those who always want prayer in school, I generally ask them who gets to pick the prayer? And would they be ok with it if it a Muslim prayer was chosen. They generally say no, that would not be ok. This is the stuff that baffles me... over and over. http://coloradoindependent.com/12361...chool-vouchers |

I've had multiple discussions with people who basically say "shut up and let us pray" when government/school + religion comes up. I, too, have noticed that people "forget" that religion would include Muslims. |
Bless her little bigot heart.

Unfortunately, too many believe that freedom of religion only means that they are free to practice their own religion.

"Oh...I thought you meant Christian schools." Of course you did, dear, but you don't think that much, do you? Typical Louisiana, but I've had the prayer in school discussion with my parents a million times. I went to private school K-8 for that reason. The school did not fall apart when I went to HS, and I wasn't forced to say a prayer at school everyday, but the fact that we had zero violence at my school was not good enough for my parents.

Lol, this cracks me up. Perhaps she should be concerned that the vast majority of religious schools in LA are providing a sub-par education.

ETA: There are some very good religious schools in LA that do a good job (though science education will always overlook evolution, I guess they'll get this in college) but none of these schools are hurting for students or will take more than a couple of these voucher students. Most have to start at K5 so they don't have to catch up with their peers or be "deprogrammed" or bring any bad public school mojo with them. |
