Convention 2012

Everyone else seems to have one, so I'm starting a Convention, 2012 thread. Even though it's only 2 days away now! Better late than never!

I'll be there. I'm just heading out to get my pink carnations to decorate my hat for the Confirmed Conventioneers parade. Is anyone else going?

pbear19 06-25-2012 04:55 PM

I'll be there on Friday and Saturday. Can't wait! I've got an 11 week old little boy sleeping on my lap right now who I'll be leaving with his dad and grammie, so it will be a bit bittersweet. I'm looking forward to my first break from mommy stuff (I'm not working right now, so no job to go to during the days for me) but it will be hard to leave him behind.

I'll have three carnations on my hat. :)

Enjoy yourself; this will definitely be a change of scene for you!

I'll have 5 carnations, so I get to join the parade!

I'm so envious! I always want to go, but once again it just falls at an impossible time. Maybe next time! Have a great time, sisters.:)

I would have loved to go, but I feel it's too expensive...like they lost control of costs. 2012 Registration is twice as much as Cincinnati's, and $200 more than Orlando. $800 for three days, not including airfare, hotel and all meals, is way too much in my opinion. I made the choice to stay home out of protest (and I shared my reasons with IH). I hope the 2014 Convention comes back down to earth.

I'm with Peppy - would love to go, but cannot afford it.

Yup, it's a pretty costly vacation if you're not there on official chapter business of some kind. Wish I could be there, but there are too many things to do and expenses at home this year. I hope they post a ton of pictures for me to peruse, though!

Just got back and had a great time! I love Convention! Met a fellow GCer...MerryGPhiB. :)

At the risk of being immodest - hooray! I won Honorable Mention for the Beatrice Locke Hogan award! (Recognizes work with panhellenic)

Sciencewoman 07-02-2012 09:38 AM

Congratulations, Belle! It's too bad you weren't there to receive it in person!

There was a VERY hearty round of applause at the "announcement" of the Texas State recolonization (as well as for Chi when the Oregon State recolonization was announced).

I am already looking forward to Convention in Seattle in 2014! That will be #6 for me.

pbear19 07-02-2012 10:28 AM

Congrats Belle, that's fantastic!!

I was only there for a day and a half, but it was worth every penny. I had so much fun!! I'm hoping to save up for Seattle and make it a family vacation. My son will be 27 months by then, so I think he'd hopefully be old enough to do some touristy things.

PeppyGPhiB 07-02-2012 03:06 PM

Of course this had to be the Convention I'd miss.

...Announced that 2014 Convention will be in Seattle! That will be #3 for me.

...My collegiate chapter (Zeta Theta) won the Frances E. Haven Award for signigicant improvement in all areas of chapter life. So proud of these girls - I know they've worked hard!

Congrats, Belle! With as hard as it is for chapters to win awards, I can only imagine the dedication and accomplishment it takes to win an individual award.

For all of the Gamma Phi Beta sisters who did not have a chance to attend Convention, here's a link to the fantastic highlights video that was shared the last day:
