I am a current student at a community college. I will be finishing up my associates this fall and transferring to a university for the spring semester. I am interested in joining a fraternity but I dont know much about them or if I can even join as a transfer student. I would like to join for the possibility of making connections to help me get a job after I graduate and to get to know new people. I couldnt care less about partying and getting wasted.

There is a lot that happens in a fraternity that is neither making connections for a job nor partying. To intimate that these are the only two things fraternities could possibly be about is quite offensive to many members. I suggest you educate yourself a bit more before you attempt to go through rush.

I realize that those are not the only two things in a fraternity I was simply stating the things that most and least interest me. I know they do a lot of community service, intramurals, formals, etc. I came to this website to better educate myself on fraternities before attempting to join.

Check out your school's Greek Life/Fraternity webpage, that will tell you a lot of information. A fair amount of school websites also have links to the individual chapter websites, so I would highly recommend checking those out also. As far as I know, there is no general rule to whether transfer students can rush - I would think it would be allowed, but of course, it's up to the fraternities as to whether they want to give you a bid or not, and nothing is guaranteed.

If you're interested in looking for specific information at your school, try either using the greekchat search to look for your school, or type site:greekchat.com into google, followed by whatever keywords you're looking for (like yourschoolname+fraternities+recruitment, or something similar) and read what comes up.
