Owt
Hey....I am a neo and I have been visiting websites, OWT appeared quite frequently. What does OWT mean?
|
Ask a local Bruh, not only will you get your answer, you will never have to ask a question like that again, but then again, if you were a real Delta, you wouldn't have needed to ask, right?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 Y is everyone upset? i am not in a BGLO yet (would like to be an omega but there is no undergrad chapter in NYC) but i don't think she should have asked " what does owt mean" on the net for non greeks like myself to see. D is the Key.:D

OWT = to party, to hang out... he is OUT or OWT = he is the life of the party
I think if YOU are considered OLD SCHOOL then YOU should show respect by example.....don't automatically think you should get respect cuz you are OLD SCHOOL..... I also think that WE should recognize when our ELDERS are speaking and not try to DISCREDIT ther existence....so it goes both ways... both of you (BRUH and SOROR) you know better then to dissed each other publicly like that...... bottom line, asking what OUT or OWT means is nothing crucial.... now like the BRUH said, you should know what OUT or OWT means if you truly hang...whether you are spr. 50, 60 or whatever.... as terms change they stay the same.... OUT or OWT hasn't changed much....the word has added more meaning....

Thanks for joining the convo NAMCAP. LADYGREEK, no disrespect intended ma'am, but as the Moderator of this forum and a long term visitor to other forum, I have developed a gift for discernment about the validity of certain posts and their content. There are numerous clues which impact the credibility of the post that I questioned. Any young Delta (not a seasoned one such as yourself) who has spent 30 seconds around an Omega would know the answer to her question. If you are already of the Coleman family, there is no need to seek such info anonynously over the net. If you live it, you will know it, otherwise your validity to know such info becomes questionable. I say all of that in the most respectful way, LadyGreek.

Doggy Style,
What an "unseasoned" Delta knows or doesn't know based on her socialization with members of Omega, has no bearing on whether she is "really" my soror or not. And furthermore, being part of the "Coleman Family" as you put it, still does not give you the right to question the validity of a Soror in this or any other forum. Lets put it this way, I wouldn't dream of questioning an Omega about what he knows or doesn't know and I certainly wouldn't assume he was not a "real" Omega man based on unofficial vernacular, such as being "OWT" or the entire "Coleman Love" concept. Simply because I'm not an Omega, and its not my place. And for the record, I didn't know what that meant either, and I'm relatively seasoned also (Spr 1989). I DEFINITELY would bristle at the notion that you felt you had the right to"question" my membership in DST. I think it is in poor form, and not the right way to treat your fellow greeks. This is simply one Delta's opinion, respectfully submitted I hear your position, but please know that you can't take certain things and jump to conclusions about others membership in an org, especially if you aren't a member of that org yourself. |
Hot in Heah!!
Whoo, it's hot up in heah!! Well, at least you know some sorors had your back, DST1345623 (welcome to the sisterhood).
Knowing what "Owt" means doesn't have anything to do with Delta...it is about hanging out with Omegas. If you hang out with Ques, then more than likely, you know what "owt" means. Now, you can 'TRULY HANG', and hang hard, but if you're hanging hard with Alphas, Kappas, or Sigmas, you may have never heard "owt". To "champion" who talked about discretion - shoot, "owt" is not HARDLY a secret, so no discretion was needed. I knew what "owt" meant long before I became a member of Delta Sigma Theta, because I have a lot of friends who are Omegas. And finally, you never know, soror who asked about "owt" may have heard someone say "Be owt" before, but she may not have realized that it's spelled "OWT", but it's pronounced like "out". She may have thought it was an acronym for something, as in "oh double-U tee" rather than pronounced like the word OUT. But of course, this is all just my 3 cents on the matter. |
Hey, I see we have several Sorors new to GC in the House. Stop by the Delta Forum and introduce yourselves!

Gotta defend my dawg!
Let me introduce myself:
I'm "The 4-1-1" #3-Pi Kappa-Spring '97. I do not consider myself ol' skool by any stretch of the imagination-- I simply consider myself a die-hard, proud Delta lady! I love everything about my beloved Sisterhood, including the many thousands of PHENOMENAL Divas who make up my family. So, Sorors--please don't be offended by the things I will say in Doggy's defense. I happen to know him very well-- he gives a meaning to the word "FRIENDSHIP" that no language in any culture has the words to accurately express. AND I know, for FACT, that his RESPECT and ADMIRATION for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the women therin is beyond measure!!! As a moderator of the DST forum, I can and do respect Doggy's caution because, unfortunately, it is a SAD REALITY that many, many, many prospectives use the forum as a channel through which they can be the person they long to be-- older/younger, college-educated, professionally employed, stunningly attractive, and yes--GREEK. So, don't get me wrong--I definitely understand why we need to step in when someone outside the fam attempts to determine whether or not someone is/isn't who they say they are, but please try to see Doggy's POV, too. As a moderator, he does have the right to question whether or not someone is/isn't a member of an org based on what they post. Whether or not the Soror's question warranted that kind of suspicion...well, unfortunately that's in the eye of the beholder. Now me personally, I'm all about Private Messenger (PM). If I were asking the question, I would have PM'd the moderator, rather than submit a public post--but that's just me. Had the question been asked in my forum, I would have responded via PM or e-mail, as I do 99% of the time--but that's just me. I am who I am and he is who he is. Were I to solicit suggestions about this from 10 other people, I'm sure I'd get 10 more different responses. All I care about is that we try to see at least a teeny, tiny bit of where the Bruh may have been coming from and that his intentions weren't motivated by a disrespect toward her or our Sisterhood. Now, I have to disagree with the argument that someone who is NOT in XYZ frat/sorority can't "check" someone who claims to be in XYZ frat/sorority. Yes, there is a "this-ain't-yo'-business" issue to consider because there are definitely limitations. However, as members of the NPHC family, I think we all (should) know enough basic info (official and/or traditional) about EVERY other org in the fam to be able to recognize some signposts that suggest that someone might be perpin'. Personally, I have busted a many a folk who claimed to be Ques, Sigmas, Alphas, Kappas, AKAs, Zetas, or Iotas. Because I respect ALL GREEKS in the NPHC family, I refuse to let anyone get away with something like that. Yes, I know my limits--who am I to question things that I shouldn't even know? But, TRUST--if I meet a "Que" who doesn't know who I'm talking about when I call him "Frank", or if I meet an "AKA" who SWEARS she pledged at a school during a semester when I KNOW that chapter didn't have a line, or if a "Kappa" spells Crimson with a "C" (instead of a "K"), I feel compelled to follow through. I may ask a few more questions ('cuz I love to see liars get tongue-tied) or call out names of people they should definitely know; if I'm still suspicious but not convinced, I just dial one of my buddies in that org and let them follow up. What it all boils down to for me is this: "If you're not in an org, don't act like you are." Doggy shares that same philosophy and dedication to black greekdom and especially to Coleman siblinghood, so he is very protective when it comes to who's who. One of the first things we all learn as prospectives is the importance of DISCRETION. Please don't fault him just because the question (posted publically like it was) may have sent up a red flag about the Soror's membership. Now, the way he said what he said in response... well, I'll leave that alone. But, TRUST ME-- he meant no disrespect toward her or any of us. Believe me, if Doggy had been born female, he'd be a Delta! The brother is a true Omega Man who loves him some Deltas (especially me--don't ya Bruh?)! And I'm Out! |
Three is a Magic Number!
PS: Much Delta Luv to my number, Three_Love! :D
