Does Facebook play a role in recruitment?

I tried searching for a topic about this, but didn't seem to find one. I apologize if there is an active topic about this. Recently I attended my university's freshmen orientation and there were various fraternities with tables set up where you could sign your name if interested. I have gotten more than a few friend requests on Facebook from members of fraternities the past two days. Do fraternities use Facebook as a tool in recruitment?

Oh yeah! And they'll use it to see what you are up to so be sure there is nothing on there that you wouldn't want your grandmother or pastor to see!

It's possible that they will also use Facebook to post their party schedule. At least I have seen that at other schools.

The fraternities at my school, especially mine, heavily rely on Facebook for recruitment, both internally and externally.

Also, very mush this:

Uh, yeah immensely. For us it is usually one of the first forms of contact (because of our smaller scope). I've noticed a lot of other chapters using it as well. It helps when compiling a list of incoming freshmen as well as keep in contact with you.

Thanks for the replies. My grandma is actually friends with me on Facebook so I'm actually not able to post anything that I don't want her to see, lol.

Yes. It's almost like a court room, anything and everything can be used against/for you. Anything and everything.

FB is a very powerful tool for selection in recruitment. We make pretty heavy use of it and Twitter. Beats the old days where we sent letters to prospects in the summer and expected them to come out and get to know us on their own. This allows for a lot of direct solicitation and the ability to screen out men who aren't Sigma Nu material.

Just so everyone knows, the above poster is a male.

The OP is a male, but the one above you is either a female bisexual who
has more issues than O Magazine, a troll, or both.

No, I still think it's a male trying to get back at rival fraternities. At any rate, they've been reported and will hopefully be banned soon.

I wasn't gender specific about "troll" for that reason, but if is a dude, he's got awesome taste in wedding cakes. :p

Lol I was wondering what happened to all their posts. haha I took my daughter to her swim class and when I came back everything was gone. I don't understand why people "troll". I feel it would take too much time and effort to think of a creative story to tell people and then pretend it's true.
