Recruiting at IU
Just looking for any and all ideas for recruitment at a school with a very involved greek life. Of course there are parties, but that doesn't always get the highest quality bros. What are some sober/not party type event ideas?

IU Indiana University? If so, I can suggest a few events. Anything involving food is good because unless things have gotten significantly better since I graduated, real food is always good. If the dorms are still not serving food on Sunday evenings, a cookout is a great idea. Have good food, outdoor games and a handful of good looking personable girls there. Choose either serious girlfriends of brothers or women who are friendly with your chapter and can sell the chapter. I was a rush hostess for a chapter when I was in school there and I always made it clear how great the guys were without coming off too gung ho. Do this welcome week, like the Sunday before classes start. Welcome week is HUGE at IU.
Once the school year starts, you can have a Monday night football event. Sit around watch the game, order pizza or wings, get to know the guys who come. If your chapter has a presence at IU football games, like a big block of guys who go to the game and not hang out in the tailgate field, invite recruits to sit with you. If you have guys who ride, find out if any of the recruits ride and have the bike team invite them out for a ride. Really, anything your brothers like to do can be made into a good event as long as the brothers know it is an rush event and need to concentrate on recruiting, not just hanging. Good luck and Go Hoosiers! |
I'm going to assume based on your previous posts that you mean Indiana
I was around my boyfriend's fraternity a lot during their fall and spring rushes, and saw what events worked well and what events sort of flopped. I'd personally recommend a wings/sports night (set up a bunch of TVs showing college football, baseball, NFL preseason...but who cares about that, have wings and chips/dip, taco salad, etc.), poker or casino night, video game night (host a bunch of tournaments in Halo, COD, Madden, old school Mario Kart, etc.), host a cookout and have cornhole boards/volleyball/football/catch set up. Just make sure your brothers are focused on recruiting and not just hanging out, as you want these guys to both connect with you and remember you. It's not always the coolest parties or the best event that gets guys from your rival, it's about the connections they made with other guys |
