I know things have changed cost-wise since I was at USC but the USC Panhellenic website has a lot of info - see link and excerpt below:

http://www.uscpanhellenic.com/faqs

Q: I have to pay for rush myself - what does it cost to be in a sorority?

A: Currently, dues range from approximately $1000-2000 per house for new members. However, dues tend to decrease significantly the next year when new member and initiation fees are no longer necessary. Likewise, keep in mind that as an upperclassman, living in a sorority house is often much cheaper than dorms or campus apartments. There are also a limited number of scholarships to help a few new sorority women each year.

Southern Cal.'s website should have a listing of average fraternity dues, or even fraternity dues chapter by chapter. It should be more accurate then what GC members can give you, unless there is someone here who is or recently was a member of Southern Cal.'s fraternity life.

Just expect to spend a good deal, I'd say between 1500-3000 on your first semester. What I spent was in between that, on the high end of that. If you parents are paying, just tell them somewhere around 3000 dollars. That should be more than enough.

Good luck with rushing.
