letter of rec for my friend

Hi guys i'm writing a letter of rec for my friend and i was looking at the membership reference form. it asks me for my address and stuff and i'm not sure why it is asking me for this info? just a formality? also for initiation date do i just put 2011 ? i don't remember the exact day

thanks, sorry for the bad typing my left hand is in a cast.

This is a question that you need to ask an advisor or a regional/district/HQ rep.

Hi Kyra, if you are a KKG (which I am assuming based on your username), you might want to check out the KKG forum and ask your question there as they will be able to answer your questions best.

I would assume most GLO Rec forms ask for the Rec writer's personal info. The reasoning is fairly simple.

1. To make sure the author is in fact an initiated member of the GLO and not some perp. (Every org is different, but for mine we only need the initiation year and not the actual date.)

2. To make sure the author is still a member in good standing. (I have seen Recs written by women whose membership had been cancelled. I have also seen legacy claims that turned out mom's membership was cancelled.)

3. A chapter should send thank you notes to all Rec writers, thus the need for the author addresses.

Semi-side Note: Wouldn't it be nice to have an Inat'l online Rec form that would not only send an electronic copy to the chapter in question, but would also do the member in good standing verification, & update the Inat'l membership contact info data base?

Wow! Great idea, Zillini!

That would be awesome!!

If you are a KKG, your initiation year is fine along with your chapter.

Address is needed for correspondence with you - chapters should thank you, some let your know where your girl ended up pledging, etc. Plus, it is a type of verification as Zillini said.

I am guessing since you said your initiation year is 2011, that you have never even seen a rec form or read rec letters...Use your permanent home address, not your college address on this form.

ok guys this has helped me a lot thanks!

lastly, my friend has a question and asked me to post it here. if her family moved recently (as in like the last week) her perm. address has changed. Should she put her new address or old? or would it even make a difference? she's kinda wanting to know i guess if the address is used to do any confirmation on kappa membership, in which case she would use the old one since the new one wouldn't have been affiliated at all. she did ask someone i think but they haven't gotten back to her and none of my sis's seem to actually know so we're exhausting all resources in the hunt for the answer. thanks guys you've helped a lot!!

You are not making sense with this paragraph; and, you've posted this in two different threads. Please contact your Kappa advisor(s) or HQ for the answers to your questions; those are resources you haven't yet utilized.

haha this question is referring to my SISTER in kappa who is also writing a rec for a DIFFERENT person, sorry that was unclear. she's the one that just moved and was wondering about her address. that situation has nothing to do with me, & she did but she just asked me to post the question here as well. my bad.

Titchou 06-12-2012 07:21 AM

I'm sure Kappa has a method that she can change her address with your HQ online. That would make the change immediate! So she should do that and use her current address.

Might I suggest that you take a writing class? Your left hand in a cast, resulting in single handed typing, has nothing to do with your brain and its ability to formulate clear, concise sentences in a written format.

She actually has a point. Either a writing class or no drunken posting would serve you well.

Yes, we have a way for all members to change their addresses on our website.
