New Sorority

I went through the rush process at my college and really enjoyed it.

Ultimately, I'd love to open another sorority. I keep thinking it would be great and if all those women in history could do it why can't I open a chapter?

What exactly are the steps I need to take?

However, I'm nervous about rushing again even though plenty of girls tell me I should (I know rushing as a sophomore is a little harder as it is).

I also know on my campus there was a chapter closed when the house was broken into and a few girls were raped-but that was over 30 years ago now-and the house is still there waiting to be salvaged. And it's so close to a great frat. All in all, it's a waste of a perfectly good opportunity. I've also heard my campus activities advisor has previously discussed wishing there was a 5th sorority on campus because so many girls rush.

Do I open a new chapter that I'd like to, or simply attempt to re-open Alpha Omicron Pi? (The chapter that experienced the attack)
If anyone goes to/went to Illinois Wesleyan University that's where I currently attend.

Your campus has to be open for expansion before you can try to add any other groups, including AOII. Also, AOII can't come back just because we used to have a chapter there 30 years ago. Expansion doesn't work that way. If your campus is ready for a new chapter, they open for all groups, and NPC organizations that are interested would submit a packet for consideration. AOII is currently expanding to many colleges and universities. Illinois Wesleyan may not be a good fit for us right now and vice versa. The best thing to do is ask your Greek Advisor what is the likelihood of future colonizations. Realize that this may be two to three years down the road which would leave you high and dry if you choose not to go through recruitment again with the existing groups on your campus.

ETA: Beta Gamma chapter closed in 2000, not 30 years ago.

Just because there is an awesome house available on campus and the Greek Life Director made a random remark doesn't mean that it is a good idea to expand.

Also, I would edit your post to remove your school and the name of the closed chapter. GC and the internet are not as anonymous as you think!

I don't think the first sentence of the second paragraph is necessary.

And, I'm guessing, not for the reasons she cited.

I'm sure not...those things end up being well publicized a la Bundy, but you never know.

The campus activities advisor is a man who may or may not have a clue as to how NPC sorority expansion works. (I'm leaning really heavily towards not.)

Haha, wow.

That picture is quite ridiculous.

reasons I cited. I could or could not be wrong I really wasn't trying to get specific on why they closed.

You didn't "cite" anything, hun.

Sounds like you knew exactly why they closed.

BUT THE HOUSE IS SO CLOSE TO A GREAT FRAT!!! OMG THAT MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER AND WE SHOULD THROW OUT ALL THE EXPANSION RULES!!!

Forget it, I didn't realize the process was so extensive. You all are correct. Sorry to waste a thread.
The moderator can delete it, but thank you for the input

Did you think you could just sign a lease or something?

What were you expecting insofar as an answer? You turned down a bid to a fabulous (if I do say so myself) sorority. Sorry that Kappa wasn't good enough for you, but most GCers aren't sympathetic to women who turn down bids.
