Books about NPHC sororities
Not exactly sure if this is the right place for this but here goes...
I am doing research on the NPHC sororities and have read all the national sites and want more info without crossing into "member territory." I have already heard of and ordered The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities but I am looking for books about the individual sorority itself like In Search of Sisterhood: Delta Sigma Theta and the Challenge of the Black Sorority Movement. Dose anyone have any suggestions on titles that fall in this category? Once again, I am not trying to step on any toes by acquiring members only books, I am just looking for books that the general public can read. Thanks for any help! *If this is in the wrong place, could a moderator please move it :) |
(Note, I am a white male, )
I'd check Amazon.com for each of the four sororities. Having just done so, a couple of comments. Avoid the ones by Ronald Cohn Jesse Russell, from the publisher it looks like all they do is take the Wikipedia page and random links and print them out. It also looks like 'Walter "Big Walt" Anderson' has done an "unauthorized history" of each of the NPHC, but looking at the contents it looks like not much more than what you could get from Wikipedia plus Bio's on the founders. I'd stay away from both. Having said that, neither one is as ugly as "The True Alpha And Omega: (Exposing Spiritual Wickedness in Fraternities and Sororities)". |
Oh okay good. When I saw books like that I got kind of wary that's why I asked here. Thank you!
