Let's See Your Pet!

Here is a picture of my rescue Allie, a shar pei mix:

She's ADORABLE! My baby was part Shar Pei and I LOVED the wrinkles. She had a ton right under her neck.

Awww! :)

Here's my kitty on his first birthday:

And my favorite picture of him (he was a few months old):

This is my dog from about a year ago. She's part catahoula leopard hound and part australian shepard

My dogs refuse to look at the camera and be photogenic, so I don't have any good/recent pictures of them. Baby pictures it is!

Long-haired red dapple miniature dachshund female, Maggie, currently 6

Beagle/poodle mix male, Dexter, currently 2

The two of them together, so you can at least kind of see how big Maggie is as an adult. Dexter's about 20 pounds now.

This is a beautiful mix. I don't think I've ever seen one of the leopard dogs in person.

There's already like 3 other pet threads.

My parents have a Catahoula. They are such great dogs, you got lucky :)

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce my nearly one-year-old shih tzu, Jack!
[Also, I do not know how to resize photos--I just created a photobucket to post this photo, so sorry if this winds up being kind of big!]
ETA: Ok, figured out how to resize, but it's not in such great focus anymore. Either way, this is Jack!

As most of you know, I lost my kitty about 2 years ago. I think I'm ready to take the plunge again, but with something smaller, like a bird.

Anybody have a bird and want to tell me about it?

Yes! I have a Sun Conure and he is very easy to take care of. The only thing about my bird is that he has an affinity for noisemaking and likes to squawk. This can be good (i.e. if someone's coming to the door, I get a warning) or annoying (if I go past his cage and don't take him out, he squawks repeatedly). He also doesn't like Jack very much (I keep them separate).

Otherwise, he just kind of chills in his cage or on a perch. He's pretty good about warnings with bathroom stuff (when we first got him, he went to the bathroom on my sister's shoe! Eww!). We just clean his cage about once every two weeks and refill his food/water when it's running low. He's gotten really good at just perching on peoples' shoulders and sitting patiently when taken out of his cage. Oh, but we do close doors when we take him out of the cage! He's pretty good at flying.

Here is a photo of Norman Conrad Birdie [my last name] IV (fourth bird we've had), best known as "Norm," like the Cheers character.

^^^Thanks! There's a bird rescue place near me and I think I might stop by and talk to them a little more about it (and possibly spend some time with a bird just to see if it's something I can handle permanently.)

Would you say that your bird is affectionate? Or is it more like a random bird in a cage who doesn't care about people so much?

I want a pet that's going to be interested in hanging out with me, but not on the level as say, a cat or dog.

Oh, Norm loves people! As soon as you let him out of the cage, he flies onto the nearest person's shoulder and just sits there. My mom can be working out, paying bills, talking on the phone...Norm sits on her shoulder and gives her affectionate "gnaws" on her neck occasionally! He just hates the dog, for reasons I fail to determine.

She is a complete sweetheart. Unfortunately she is 12 and not doing too well. She has had cancer in her lungs and had a large lump that had to be removed. Her hips are beginning to be problematic as well. It's sad. She was really the first pet that was "mine". Our other dog was six when I was born and died when I was eight. It's the worst thing about pets...

We were very lucky to get her. My aunt was a vet and a patient brought in a pregnant stray. We visited her just when the puppies could be adopted without even knowing about them.
