New Chapter USF
I'm an incoming freshman and my school is expanding for the fall. Gamma Phi Beta was chosen. I was wondering whether anyone had any information about what that would mean for those rushing? Would there be much guidance and where would it come from? I'm excited but wary. Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

Search this site under the words "colony" or "colonizing." The threads you find will give you an idea of what to expect when a new sorority comes to campus. Good luck!

I think they are coming on NEXT Fall -2013.
Also, look on the official Gamma Phi website - www.gammaphibeta.org - for the colony link. It's not there now - check back in a few weeks. I would also expect a facebook page for the colony to eventually be made. |
Gamma Phi Beta is colonizing this fall at USF..they will only be recruiting the first day of recruitment :) After recruitment week, you can attend their events ONLY if you didnt sign a pref/bid card after pref round. Hope this is helpful...just getting back into the "swing of things" and getting back on GC more :)

We're going to UCF next fall... just to make things as confusing as possible! :)

Could one of the Gamma Phis explain how your colonies operate to the OP? I think that might have been what she was asking, since she mentioned guidance and where it would come from.

I am very excited about these new chapters in FL! :)

I advise at a newer chapter, and since I am a professor on campus, I was involved from the time we found out it was open for extension.
There will be a team of Collegiate Leadership Consultants (recent graduates who travel for Gamma Phi Beta and are trained to support chapters) on campus to lead the first round parties. After regular recruitment is completed, they will then "table" and get to know women informally...probably for a week or two before a larger team of alumnae come in to host the formal recruitment events. Once bids have been offered and the colony is off and running, 1-2 of the CLCs will stay on campus for the whole semester, leading the new colony members through new member education. There will be another CLC assigned to live on campus the next semester, and probably the next fall, too. In addition, another traveling CLC (or more) will come to make regular visits. So, new members are definitely not left on their own! We have a whole structure for supporting new chapters...recruitment consultants, an advisory board, a chapter advisor, etc. New chapters receive much support to ensure their success. The CLCs will probably talk about this at the first round party during regular recruitment. |
