only at uni for a year, can I still rush?

Hi,

Im going to be having a study abroad year in america coming from the UK for a year, I would like to join a fraternity but im not sure will i be accepted as i can only stay for a year, I dont mind the fact that I will be pledging only to not be an active for very long but will fraternitys say no as I will not be there for very long?

That's something you'll have to take up with the chapters at the university you're attending. It could go either way, but there isn't too much incentive for a chapter to initiate someone that is only going to be there for one year.

Depends on where you go.

We have a very active alumnus who was only active for about 1 year as an undergraduate member. He ended up leaving the U.S. after being accepted to the University of Tokyo. He still returns to the U.S. regularly for fraternity events.

You won't know unless you try.

This depends on your university, the specific fraternity, and quite frankly, you. There will be fraternities at certain universities that wouldn't give you the time of day, others that might welcome you with open arms, and still others that would at least give you a look if you were a good candidate (good grades, fun person, well kept, etc).
