Tupac's "performance" in Coachella

I don't know what to think. One hand it's cool as hell, on the other hand, creepy as hell.

Here's the youtube link:

I think it's incredible - I really enjoy his music, but am too young to have seen him when he was alive so for me, it was a really cool experience to watch something like that.

However, I couldn't help but be reminded of the dancing baby from Ally McBeal.

I know several people who were there this past weekend. Reactions were mixed: initially, "wow" and then ...

not so much. It's gotten some interesting writeups from reviewers.

Don't expect a repeat of it.

they were more excited about Eminem's guest appearance, actually.

I was blown away just watching it on YouTube. My reaction was mixed as well. I thought it was sooooo cool but it was also a little creepy. I can't imagine what that was like for Snoop to perform with him or for the people who knew him to watch that.

I wonder whether this could be a new phenomenon? Will studios be able to make more money if they start sending their talents' holograms to perform on tours instead of the real deal? Will people care?

How much are you willing to pay for a live show versus a hologram when your senses can't really tell the difference?

I know that the technology isn't quite perfect. Give it a couple years though.

I fall firmly on the creepy and unneccessary side.

I thought of this, too. It would be especially huge for dead artists. I'm betting there are thousands to millions of people who would be willing to pay for a Hologram-Tupac concert. In a vacuum, it sounds ridiculous to pay for a hologram performance but on a larger scope, I bet the money would seem like a small price to pay to see your favorite artist perform after you though you'd never see them live again. Thinking specifically with Whitney and MJ who were growing more fragile toward the ends of their careers, you could replicate the heart-stopping performances they gave in their prime.

I have nothing to contribute, other than to inform you that you can follow Hologram Pac on Twitter:

I would have paid all kinds of money to see that. I love Pac.

The crowd as in shock, wonder how many of them was on something when Tupac "appeared." They would've have gone nuts.

Mevara 04-17-2012 07:52 PM

I have heard that Tupac might go on tour.

thetalady 04-17-2012 08:07 PM

I don't care if he is dead or alive, I just want him to pull up his damned pants. I don't want to look at his drawers!

That really was Tupac. Not a hologram. He's still alive.

I would care and I'd think all if not most fans of music would care as well. Hell, I'd rather sit on my couch in my underwear and watch a concert DVD than drive to a theater and drop $20 to watch a stupid hologram lip sync over pre-recorded music.

Left Eye to join TLC on reunion tour. Looks like this is the new thing.
