Boston police investigating hazing at Alpha Epsilon Pi

Not good.

LOL, I like the "pretend to be sleeping when the cops show up" approach.

jazing 04-10-2012 03:38 PM

I'm shaking my head, stupid stuff like this shouldn't happen.

AlphaFrog 04-10-2012 03:40 PM

They also found about a dozen other college students scattered around the two-story home.

WTF? Are they people or Waffle House hashbrowns?

An assortment of some of the other coverage, for those who might be interested:

Boston U – Possible Hazing – Alpha Epsilon PI (Chapter not Recognized by BU)

AEPi has suspended the BU chapter and its members, as one might have guessed:

And the Globe reports that some of the men in the chapter may be expelled:

It's pretty disturbing, because I am an active in The Tribe (AEPi) and our chapter (Epsilon Phi) is underground until we get through IFC, even though nationals are beggin us to get initiated. Kinda awkward to be so similar to those guys.

From AEPi HQ

Quote:

Statement Regarding Boston University Incident -- Revised

Alpha Epsilon Pi does not – in any way – condone hazing of any type. We have been a leader for many years on this subject and expend considerable effort each year to educate our chapter leaders and members as to the proper new member education programs.

The actions being reported at Boston University do not reflect our Fraternity’s values or principles of brotherhood.

After doing a thorough investigation, we have closed our Boston University (Zeta Deuteron) chapter. Any members found responsible for participating in any actions contrary to our risk management guidelines will be expelled. We also intend to fully cooperate with all authorities and investigations.

In addition, AEPi board members and staff are reaching out to every one of our 160+ campuses to make sure that all of our Brothers understand our position on hazing and are completely in compliance with our guidelines.

You mind telling me where Epsilon Phi is located?? You aren't on the online chapter roll.

He said before that he's in an underground chapter, I believe...which means he's probably not officially initiated according to your HQ.

Plus, he's either ridiculous or a troll, or most likely both.

jazing 04-11-2012 03:21 PM

Well, BU was listed online. They were probably at one point recognized by BU then dropped off.

That's usually how chapters end up underground...being de-recognized by the National, university or both. Most people don't set out to start an underground of a National org.

They haven't been recognized by BU for some time. I was active in the Boston U Greek system from 2000-2003, and they weren't recognized at at time. I don't know if they were an "official" AEPi chapter during that period.

One would think that a former chapter gone underground would still show up as an inactive chapter.

So, yeah, definitely a troll.

In my book that lists the chapters, Epsilon Phi is not listed as an inactive chapter or colony.

AEPi's been at BU since 1941, I'm not sure at what points they recolonized/chartered and didn't get accepted or whatever though.
