Birthday Party Fight in Altoona PA (Gamma Phi Beta members)

Allegedly, and reportedly, some young women got into a fight over a stolen bottle of vodka at a birthday party. A beating led to hospitalization.

The article (below) on the Altoona PA paper's web site mentions that some of those involved are in Gamma Phi Beta at Penn State. Now, I don't know if that means Penn State main campus or Penn State - Altoona. Both campuses have Gamma Phi chapters, right?

Either way, yikes! Not great publicity.

Oh well. Life happens and is filled with lessons. If they don't feel silly for this now, they probably will when they think back to their college years and their early 20s. One of the pros and cons of living is the ability to think back to something and say "I could've done without that stupidity in my life."

I think this is neither good nor bad publicity. It was dumb but it is not the first time members of GLOs got into fights with members of their GLO, members of other GLOs, and nonGreeks. Yay!

Methinks they will not be Gamma Phi Betas much longer....

Logan Valley would be the Altoona chapter but wow, what an awful story. I hope everyone is okay.

I know people are prone to doing stupid stuff when they are drunk, but these girls were downright vicious. Yeah, you realize you did stupid stuff when you're young, but this is going to bite these girls in the ass every time they apply for a job. I'm sure they'll also face charges/sanctions from the college's student judiciary.

This would be Penn State - Altoona.

People from Main campus do not go to Altoona to party.

My little was actually present at this party. Yes, they were all affiliated with Gamma Phi Beta. Three active sisters, one sister who had dropped, and one alumnae (from PSU Main Campus).. They disgust me... thanks to them, Greek Life as a whole here at PSU Altoona is in jeopardy.

Yes, you are right, nobody else who is Greek in Altoona ever breaks the rules, it is only a single incident involving three women that will cause the entire Greek system to be shut down.

Isn't it amazing how that happens? Awesome, even.

I hope you survive.

Are you suggesting that some national (or regional) officers, and/or some influential alumnae, might take a dim view of "punching the victim in the face while the woman lay unconscious," and other reported / alleged actions?

SWTXBelle 03-27-2012 07:50 PM

Let us just say the members were not "promoting the highest form of womanhood."

arrowlady 03-29-2012 04:31 PM

Wow very ugly behavior.

Penn State - Altoona has suspended the Gamma Phi Beta chapter there, pending an investigation. The local Altoona newspaper's web site reports:
