Recruiment
I need letter of rec.'s for recruiment but I honestly only know one person who is in a sorority. What should I do? I really want to rush and have everything prepared. I want a bid badly but I feel without these letters I won't be able too. Again, what should I do?

You do realise that letters of reccomendation do not gaurantee you a bid right?
Think about all the ladies you know, outside of your family, doctors, teachers, people from church, your friends moms, any of these ladies could be sorority women, ask around. Be polite, and remember, if they do write you a rec, remember to write back to thank them after recruitment to let them know if/where you accepted a bid. Please be advised that no-one on Greek Chat will write a rec for you, if you have an Alumnae Panhellenic Group in your town/city/county, try getting in contact with them, they can point you in the right direction for getting recs. Try all your personal contacts first! Good Luck at Recruitment! |
Unless you've been living under a rock, you DO know sorority women. You just don't KNOW they're sorority women. This is the time to start working on your conversation skills and start asking every grown up woman (and man) about their Greek affiliations. What you will start to hear are things like, I'm not, but Suzie down the street is, or I'm a Beta and my wife is a Kappa. Or yes, I am, and did you know your English teacher is a Theta?
Did you ever sell Girl Scout cookies? You may have either been given the responsibility of calling your parents friends yourself, or possibly your parents brought your forms to work. Think of your recommendations search as a much more personal sale of Thin Mints. If you're in high school, I bet more than one of your female teachers is a sorority woman. If your Mom is in the Junior League or other social/philanthropic/civic organization, she probably knows sorority women. Just because they're not wearing their letter sweatshirts doesn't mean they're not members! And don't just consider this a chore to get through. If you do it thoroughly and well, you will learn a lot about what it means to be a sorority woman and how things have changed and you will be better prepared for rush. |
