Hello RoMaires, welcome to GreekChat!

As to your question, are you wanting to start your own as in expand an exisiting sority back to your school or start one from scratch?

My first instinct is to tell you don't. Work within an existing framework. There is no sorority idea under the sun that doesn't already exist in some way shape or form that can save you a mountain of trouble in reinventing the wheel. The ONLY reason I would start a local is because the university doesn't allow any other kind, and most universities out there (although there are a few) think exactly the opposite. They don't want locals and their associated risks.

Do some research online about the type of sorority you want to start and hopefully you can find one that fits your needs. If you can't, then come back here with specific questions about the type of sorority you want to start and someone here can probably direct you to an existing sorority to reach out to.

I helped to start a local sorority years ago at my campus and recently they were absorbed by a national. The first thing I would do is go and talk to your Greek Life office. They can tell you what you need to do. It is a lot of work and a lot of paperwork. At my campus it had to be voted on by the inter/national sororities and fraternities to let us participate in NPC and be included in the greek life. Good luck!
