Expansion
Have any locals ever thought about expansion to a beta chapter? Or have you?
Also, would you expand to college campuses only or would you expand to community chapters? Thoughts? |
There has been a bit of talk about this at my local, but we haven't (yet) pursued it with any seriousness. Since I'm doing grad work at a large state school with a huge Greek system and a fairly cutthroat recruitment process (for a non-SEC school, anyway), I have no doubt that there'd be more than enough room for us in the Greek system, but it's something I probably won't have a lot of time for until I'm finished with coursework and exams. I'd be interested in hearing from any locals who have expanded successfully, though!

In the past, the NY state locals expanded quite nicely: Alpha Kappa Phi, Sigma Gamma Phi, etc. Some of them still exist as multiple chapter organizations.
Xi Psi Omicron was a two chapter sorority at NYU and Columbia. They died out a long time ago, but they are an example of a local expanding. I don't know if locals can successfully expand at schools with NPCs. Would they be welcomed w/o NPC or other umbrella organization affiliation? Kappa Lambda Psi started as a local and slowly expanded, and aren't there a few of their chapters still in existence? |
And correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there a few sororities out there that aren't big enough to be NPC, but are in that ballpark?

DubaiSis,
Alpha Omega Epsilon, Phi Sigma Rho, and Alpha Sigma Kappa are social sororities for women in the sciences. They must certainly be large enough to qualify for the NPC, even though they aren't. Perhaps a local social serving a niche, such as science, would be more successful at creating a Beta, Gamma, etc. |
This thread brings the LOL.

@33girl, Why?
