Informal Recruitment Help?

Hey guys! I have a question, but first a little back story.
I go to a school that only has two traditional sororities, and neither of them are super huge member wise, mostly because our campus won't allow them to have a house. Anyway, I only really know about one of them, the one I'm rushing for, as the other one barely seems to exist (no posters about recruitment, the website hasn't been updated since 2008...). I am attending the informal spring recruitment for the one that is active around campus and just got invited to pref night. Since this isn't like other sorority recruitment, where you visit several houses and pick preferences, should I assume that this means I am in the sorority, should I chose to accept? I looked on the calendar, and there is no bid day, just pref night. I really hope so, because I just transferred to this school and this is the first thing I have been excited about since doing so.

Your wording is a bit confusing. When you ask, "should I assume that this means I am in the sorority, should I chose to accept?" do you mean if you accept the invitation to preference? or do you mean if you accept a possible bid you might get?

No matter, you should never assume you're "in" until you have a bid in your hand.

Good luck!

You're right, Leslie, I shouldn't assume. That was bad wording on my part. I guess I was more curious if there would be cuts after the pref night, or if getting an invitation means you aren't likely to get cut, or that pref night would basically be a traditional pref night and bid night combined. I had never really heard these terms before coming to this school, and I couldn't find a good answer online, so it is all very new and confusing to me!

Yes, you should attend. Yes, you could still be released though the odds are low. No, we don't know if it's a pref and bid day combined because we aren't there.

I would be surprised if they were inviting many more women to pref than they have available spots, but no, an invitation to pref is not a bid.
