Hey Everyone (: College questions [to girls and guys] and sorority stuff too!

Alright, sorry for asking for some help from you guys!

I had just started reading the stickies and came back to look at my post.
And yes, I have thought about the costs and such, my grandparents said they'd help with that when the time came. I have done my homework and will continue to look things up and learn as much as I can.

First, take down all the identifying information! At this point you might as well put up a picture of yourself.

Second, read all the stickies that are here http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/fo...play.php?f=217

Hey guys! So I just joined this site and it seems pretty cool so far. I'm hoping to maybe be able to chat with some of you and figure out what I should really be looking for when I get to school [hopefully] this fall.

------------

College specific stuff: I was supposed to go to University of South Carolina [in Columbia] in August but money was tight and I wasn't able to get enough to be able to go so I took a year off. I've been accepted to USC, Ole Miss, and University of Alabama and can't figure out where I want to go this fall. Money wise, it looks like USC or Ole Miss would be the smarter decisions but Bama looks really nice!

I want to be a photographer and a writer. The only school mentioned above with photography is Bama, but I plan on attending an art school for photography after college so that's not a huge deal breaker for me.

Are there any girls or guys on here that go to any of those three schools who could maybe tell me a little more about them from their point of view?

------------

Sorority specific stuff: Okay so I'm a triple legacy for Delta Delta Delta and its very important to me to try and continue the legacy my family has. Of course, I'm not sure if Tri Delta will truely be my home because it really just depends on the girls and if I feel like I fit in.
My friends all tell me I'll be a great sorority girl and that because I'm outgoing I'll be able to meet tons of people and have a good time, but I'm actually really really nervous for rush because of [negative] things other people have said to me about it.

Just to kind of give a little insight about me to any girls on here that are in sororities at any of the schools mentioned above:
Hair: My natural hair color annoys me so I'm usually a platinum blonde. Recently, that changed to black because I wanted to try something very new and different for me. I love it! I left the under part of my side bangs blonde so that I could dye them another color if I wanted to [I usually have a bit of pink somewhere in my hair because my grandma died from Breast Cancer and thats one of the ways I show my support to help find a cure]. They're currently a light lilacy-purple/pink color. Once that fades out, I'll either leave them blonde, make them pink, or just dye them black so my hair is all one color.
Clothing: I love converse all stars, skinny jeans, and t-shirts, but I jump at any chance I have to get dressed up and go shopping for a pretty dress. [I lived for prom in high school haha it was my favorite day of the year for both junior and senior year] My family is a huge fan of Lily clothes and, although I currently don't own any, I plan on buying some dresses and shirts and such before heading off to college. While I'm usually seen in t-shirts/tank-tops and shorts/jeans, my favorite stores are Guess and White House Black Market.

I know a lot of people judge people before they meet them, and I feel like rush is, unfortunately, going to include a ton of that.

My mom's best friend was a sorority girl at Bama when she was there and is going to help me to get letters of rec for as many sororities as possible. She said she remembers that if girls didn't have a letter of rec, their chances of getting in to that sorority would be lessened. She knows a ton about rush and sororities because of her experiences, so I'm really grateful for that! Unfortunately, I'm going to have to really push my grandma and 2 aunts [the family TriDelts] if I want to get letters of rec from them. They really want me to be in Tri Delta like they were and I asked them for letters of rec months ago and they still haven't done anything so hopefully they'll do them if I ask 10 more times [lol].

Are there any tips you guys can give me to help me with sorority stuff? Other than getting the letters of rec, what other things should I get done in order to make sure I get through rush in one piece?

Thanks in advanced for any/all help! <3

Here's some help: that was a terrible choice of username...try again.

Number 1- change your name! Trideltaluv implies that you are a Tri Delta. The fact that you are a legacy in no way insures you a bid to this group, especially at schools like Bama, Ole Miss and USC. Posting on GC with a username like this will only make things worse.

Number 2- if you were having financial difficulties keeping you from going to school last fall, how do you plan to afford sorority dues? Have you thought about this? SEC sororities are quite expensive since they generally have to pay for housing, food, expensive recruitment events, etc. If paying for school is an issue, look into the cost of sorority life. It may surprise you.

Number 3- Sororities at SEC schools are fairly conservative. If you want to know what the average member looks like, check out their chapter websites, look at the infinite threads on GC with bid day pictures and go to the schools' Panhellenic websites. There are also plenty of school specific recruitment threads on GC that you should read since the SEC gets more attention that any other region of the country. In other words, do you homework.

^^^ Ditto ditto ditto.

And please make sure you are indeed considered a legacy. I see on one tri-Delta website that says only sisters and daughters of initiated members are considered legacies.

Ah, yeah, I've seen that before too. I asked about it at a college I'd visited over the summer and they said I'd still be considered one. Thank you for mentioning it (:

I'm sure the Delta Delta Delta chapters at all of those ultra competitive SEC schools will completely ignore their policies just for you, snowflake.

Anyone else feeling a little PDASH action here?

I can tell you right now, most chapters will not consider you to be a legacy. Legacies are only sisters and daughters. That doesn't mean that they can't write rec letters for you, but even if you tell the chapter that you're a legacy, they very well may know that you're not.

Second, be yourself. No matter what sorority you join, these sisters will be your sisters for life, and if you're putting up a front, they will find out one way or another.

Trust the recruitment process, things always have a way of working out in the end, even though it may not seem that way in the beginning. You're joining a sorority for the experience and the sisters, not for the letters on the t-shirt. Those are the things that will matter in the long run.

um, I do.

Your siggy doesn't make it any better. Do yourself a favor. Delete your first post, get a new account on GC with a new name (be creative like I<3pink) that has nothing to do with Tri Delta and come back. Read, read, read before you post again.
