America's most miserable cities

We looked at 10 factors for the 200 largest metropolitan areas and divisions in the U.S. to determine America's Most Miserable Cities for 2012. Some are serious, such as violent crime, unemployment rates, foreclosures, property and income taxes, home prices and political corruption. Other factors we included are less weighty, such as commute times, weather and how the area's pro sports teams did. Although many would consider sports, commuting and weather trivial, they can be the determining factor in the level of misery for a significant number of people.
  1. Miami
  2. Detroit
  3. Flint, MI
  4. West Palm Beach, FL
  5. Sacramento
  6. Chicago
  7. Ft Lauderdale
  8. Toledo, OH
  9. Rockford, IL
  10. Warren, MI

i like lists. granted, nobody wants to be on this one (unless you're buying a house.)

We have Miami on the top of our where to go next list. To each his own.

Chicago and Miami more miserable than Toledo and Rockford?

What a crock of poo.

Aw blerg, #6? and LOL my commute time is double the "average commute" in Chicago.

Miami more miserable than Detroit? Guess I should be glad my mom lives in PA now and escaped city #4 on the list (another one I'm SMH at).

I grew up in Warren, MI. I don't think people are unhappy there. No more than Detroit anyway. They share a border. You might as well just say "the Detroit metropolitan area" and lump us all in together. And, I think people in Flint are probably more unhappy, honestly. There's nothing in Flint worth going there for. Detroit has some great stuff, it just has bad stuff too.

I would have to agree at this stage! Ask me again in another 10 years.

I wonder if West Palm Beach is on the list because my evil grandmother-in-law lives there...

Oh, did I just type that on a public forum? :o

  1. Detroit
  2. Flint, MI
  3. Warren, MI
What's "miserable" (to me) is the way they drive, here.

I thought Sacramento was lovely, YMMV I suppose...

Well that's refreshing.

I'm going there next month to meet a client. Guess I'll be staying in during my time there.
