Convention 2002

Well, I was perusing the latest Aglaia, and it had the registration form for convention. I was at leadership conference last year, and all they talked about was convention, so I was really hoping I would be able to go.

I was rather disappointed to find out that there is a $520 registration fee and a $300 hotel fee. This is ridiculously out of my price range, without even beginning to think about getting from Chicago to Atlanta.

I really don't understand how collegians are expected to attend when it costs that much. I think it would be such a positive experience, and I really wish it were within my means to go. Obviously every chapter pays for their president, but I know our showing will be pretty pathetic at those prices.

I agree. AGD had its convention here in Atlanta this summer, but I think there were very few Georgia collegiates and alumnae who were not actually associated with an alumnae or collegiate chapter.

AGD did have where you could attend the "big" dinners individually or one-day events. I don't know how they would charge for individual seminars. I do agree that some of the "field trips" seemed to be outrageously expensive b/c I know what I would pay using my car to drive to Stone Mountain, Lenox Square for Fireworks, etc.

Another idea to think about...how many non-mandatory collegiates and alumnae attend nearby functions that are free or relatively low cost and maybe only a few hours on a single day?

FYI, AGD will celebrate its 100 years of fraternity with our Chicago convention in 2004.

Damn, I wish we could have a convention in Chicago. Then I could feasibly attend one day at a time.

Think about us up in Maine...we have those expenses plus our travelling.
But, here's a thought! Try something that would raise some money maybe? I think that's what we're going to try!
Good Luck ladies!

I agree that convention does seem ridiculously expensive. I am lucky that I am less than 2 hours from Atlanta and have family that I can stay with. Unless I make chapter consultant, I'm only going to go for a couple of days though. $500+ is just too steep for me at this point.
