Small School Formal Recruitment
 

Hello! I'm a college sophomore looking to go through spring recruitment this year (I've already signed up). It's a small school, having only about 2,700 undergrad students and a total of 6 sororities (only two of those being nationally affiliated). I'm pretty nervous, but very excited, and just wanted to know if anyone had general advice on going through recruitment at a small school versus going through recruitment at a larger school? Thanks! :)

Hopefully, since your school is smaller, going in as a sophomore will not be a disadvantage in the way that it can be on a larger campus where so many women go through FR. Of course, this also means that you probably know a decent number women in the houses at this point, which could help when you go through as there will be recognizable faces from classes and activities. Of course, this is also the time to keep the nose clean, coat buttoned, and happy smile on your face! Sisters talk, and on my campus, talk spreads very quickly if a girl acts inappropriately at a fraternity party or other social event. Even small things that you might not remember are noticed, so be on high alert.

Be able to share all that you have accomplished, in terms of academics and activities on campus--ie, are you a leader, have you been involved in some impressive events or philanthropic projects, etc? You have 2-1/2 years to offer the chapters at this point, so be prepared to articulate what you hope to bring to a sorority, as well as the experience you hope to enjoy. When we pledged sophomores, we found they were more settled in, a little more focused on school and their futures, and also interested in becoming leaders in the house.
