Well, Happy IRD to all AGDs and congrats to the new initiates at the Kulanui!
|
Candy-
Funny thing happened today. IRD was at Oahu Country Club along the Pali Hwy. You know the Pali Hwy. and along that area is always raining right? Add that to white muumuus and what do you get? Many soaking wet AGDs at IRD! And that was just from walking from the car to the clubhouse! |
Sarah,
Can you explain in a little more detail what International Reunion Day is? It sounds neat! |
AGD's Founders Day is on May 30th, but by that time school's out, people have gone home, and, in some years, May 30th fell around the Memorial Day holiday.
So...to celebrate our sisterhood, the third Saturday in April is designated as International Reunion Day. AGDs, no matter where they're at, get together to celebrate Alpha Gamma Delta! It's a good way for the collegians to get to know the Junior Circle and Alumnae. It's only 6:45 am over here, and now I'm getting ready for Initiation. After a long week of ceremonies, Sasha, Elizabeth, and Tonya will finally join the sisterhood. We're having IRD right after the ceremony and this year it's at a Country Club! Good food and good backgrounds for the cameras. Best wishes to all the new Alpha Gams everywhere! Oh man.. you wore white? We wear what ever we want to IRD mainly spring dresses or suits. Why white? Just wondering! LIOB

Initiation was this morning, that's why we're required to wear what we wear to the ceremony. For us it's the traditional white muumuu. That's just for the collegians. A lot of the alums tend to wear their muumuu also. Some muumuu are uncomfortable to wear, but you'd be surprised as to what we can do with em on http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif. I had to borrow my sister's moped to go and buy candles this morning. Riding a moped with a muumuu on is real talent!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

The International Reunion Day sounds like a blast; what a great opportunity to meet sisters you wouldn't normally see! Could someone tell me what a muumuu is? Thanks!

Tracy,
A muumuu is a traditional Hawaiian dress. There are many different designs, some have Polynesian print and some have floral prints. I prefer the fitted dress because I don't feel comfortable in the "roomier" ones. http://www2.hawaii.edu/~alphagam/feastofroses.jpg These are some of my sisters and I at IRD last year. You don't really get an upclose look of the dress with this picture, but this is what we traditionally wear at special events. Each pledge class tends to get the same design. HAPPY (belated)IRD to my fellow Gams everywhere!!
Up here in Vancouver, we'll be celebrating IRD on May 6th, together with the initiation of three wonderful women into our sisterhood http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif For me, it's definitely going to be an extra special one, as I'l be receiving the graduation spoon (a chapter tradition). This will officially signify the beginning of my alumna status (which began for me back in November). Even though I've really been alum for a little while now, I still tear up when I realize that http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif As I said, it will be a special day all-around. Once again, Happy IRD day & a big AGD welcome to our new sisters everywhere!! LiEP, Jen. |
Jen- What is the graduation spoon tradition? We are always looking for new ways to bid farewell to our new alumnae. Right now they just read their alumnae letters to us.
