Fraternity Spring Recruitment 2012
This is being typed up live so bear with me as I go through Rush this week.
Preface to my school: All the fraternities on campus participate in Fall and Spring recruitment (as I've heard is normal for fraternities) and my campus is host to 17 different fraternities. The 1st night of rush is where all the fraternities in IFC come together and basically provide information to whoever would like to listen. Picture an elementary school science fair but with fraternities on the cardboard fold outs. From here on out, you basically decide where you would like to go on the next days as events are held at the houses or at parks and restaurants at about the same times. I went to every table but will only list a couple that stuck out to me and I'm going to code them by popular phone brands and models. iPhone: I went to a couple of this fraternities pre-rush events and know them to be pretty cool guys. I was greeted by name and we talked about the event that was going to be happening tomorrow. Pretty chill guys and I can see myself supporting their philanthropy. Blackberry: I use to classify this fraternity as a non visible, not really that great fraternity, but after tonight I can definitely see myself there. The guys made me feel real at ease and were very informed about their fraternity which was really good. Over the past 2 weeks of the Spring semester, I've also started to see their letters holding positions on campus more and more, and that's something I really liked. Definitely would like to see them again. LG: This fraternity was so typical that they honestly did not even stick out to me. I don't even remember what their philanthropy was. I just know that their rush event tomorrow is another barbecue. Wasn't feeling it. Motorola:This fraternity is also known for their parties, and although I loved how diverse their fraternity was, a couple of the people presenting the fraternity were very off-beat. The questions asked and conversations with them ended in many awkward pauses. I have seen them around campus but mainly just in the Student Union PDA:The guys at the table would not make eye contact with anyone that was there for information, he would keep talking and staring off in the distance. Did not like this table. Razr: This is another fraternity with an on-campus house. Although I've been invited to a couple of official pre-rush events, I was sick and couldn't go to them. I did get to hang out with them at other occasions but just by having run into them. Their philanthropy is great and even throughout last semester I saw them out and about on campus. I knew a lot about their brotherhood going in but leaving I realized I might get a bit upset if I don't get a bid from them. I'm pretty sold on these guys. Chocolate: Some friends in another school are in this fraternity and they're known as the big guys on campus. I hear they're really good nationally but todays presentation seemed to keep dragging on and on about nothing. They didn't stick out and the guys kept forgetting my name so I wasn't feeling them. Sanyo: I actually met a really great guy today who told me to check out Sanyo tonight at rush. I got there and they approved of the way I was dressed (Khakis, Polo t-shirt, and sperrys) but they're known for being all about the fratty style, and it showed in how they were more interested in what I would wear to class before knowing my name or allowing me to ask questions about their fraternity. Ended up not really liking them. Phillips: Seemed like decent enough guys, didn't really sell me entirely on their fraternity though. They kept trying to get me through intramurals, because apparently they're top ranked, but I'm more interested in seeing what they do on-campus. So that's them. Because there is class tomorrow, events don't start until about 5 and end at about 9 so if you do the math, a lot of events collide with each other and these are just some of the ones I was interested in maybe looking back at or that really didn't sick out enough to go back to. Edit: Thank you DeltaBetaBaby! |
I love reading recruitment stories, but just so you know, you are giving out a ton of information, here, and virtually all of the veteran GC'ers can read between the lines. I already know what school you are at, what question you were asked at Samsung, and the identity of at least two other groups.
So, I'm going to highly recommend that you don't post anything that will link this information to you, and that you refrain from saying anything negative about any groups. In fact, you may even want to go back and erase the names of the groups on your campus, and/or eliminate some so that there aren't the exact number that are actually at your school. |
Do go back and do some editing, but I like your style and I'm interested to learn more about what happens.
