Football lost a legend tonight. May he finally rest in peace.

His family released a statement at 9:05 p.m. that he has not died.

ETA: cbssports.com took it the link off their main page. |
^^^Multiple sources are denying the report now. If he truly hasn't died, shame on CBS.

This is awful, but I hope beyond hope that if he is still with us that someone tells him all that's being written about him. It's too bad that we never say it until it's too late.

Jay and Scott Paterno both tweeting their father is still alive.

I had heard in the late afternoon that he was in serious but not critical condition, then my DH called from the athletic department with the news. I've spent enough time in State College to know that there will be quite an uproar, but the bottom line is, a great coach was (rightly or wrongly) disgraced, and at his age, the stress couldn't possibly help him fight lung cancer. My sincere sympathies to his family & close friends. |
^^ The link confirms that he has not yet passed.

^^Not the original link.

I gotcha now, I misunderstood!

Irresponsible reporting at its worst. Facebook is exploding with this news and other people correcting the news.

Joe Paterno has passed away (for real this time) at 85. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Paterno family today.
Looking forward to paying my respects in some way during my trip to State College next weekend. |
