Phi Mu
alright well since people have been getting feedback on different chapters of different sororities, I thought I'd ask one..........What are the Phi Mus like on your campus? And please feel free to be as honest as you'd like:D  :p :)

We did not have Phi Mu at ECU, but I hear they are strong at UNC-Wilmington.

There are no Phi Mus at Duke.

Phi Mu is having an awesome year at VSU in Georgia! One of our sisters was just named Homecoming Queen, as was last year's. We initiated 22 new girls, and are the current Greek Week champions. I am SO proud to be a Phi Mu!!

Well now that I'm no longer dating a Phi Mu, (it was just a bad situation), and i've been here a while I can now answer this question.
Phi Mu here at UNL is kinda the Invisible sorority. No one really hear's that much about them. Part of this stems from the location of their house on campus--it's not on greek row so it's not a part of a lot of the intergreek shenanigans (composite stealing, serenades, etc.) They have a reputation for being a house that is for the atypical (or maybe just poor) sorority girl. No Kate Spade bags, or tiffany bracelets. I know that my ex chose it b/c of she enjoyed quote "that when I went in there I didn't get that 'ohhh look at my manicured nails' attitude I got at the other houses". That sums it up pretty well. Further b/c they arent' the ugliest, or the most gorgeous, and they are middle of the pack in grades, they don't stand out. Apparently the beta's haven't had a social function with them in 3 years--no froshes, sophs, or joint parties--nothing, although we will have a frosh this year b/c their new member social chair is a sophomore who rushed this year and she has a lot of friends in our sophomore class. I guess in all honesty they have kind of a second tier reputation at least with the Betas. They definetly arent' a house that we feel we NEED to do a function with, and I guess they feel the same way. |
WE LOVE OUR PHI MU'S!!!!!!

We don't have many Phi Mu chapters in SC; although I would love to have Phi Mu colonize here at Clemson! My friend is a Phi Mu at C of C (one of two chapters, I think, in the state), and while they are the smallest on campus, their size allows them to be VERY close. The girls I have met really embody sisterhood. I have met and heard a lot of good things about many Phi Mu chapters in GA as well!

Phi Mu's @ Westminster are having a great year so far. Campus ceiling is 65 members...and we have 64! We're so proud!
Honestly, Phi Mu is bigger in the south than it is up here in the north. On campus, we're very involved though. Always out doing stuff. And we have quality ;) formals and date parties. WOO! |
Honestly, the Phi Mu's at Elon are annoying. No offense to any Phi Mu's out there because I understand every chapter is different and I know and am friends with a few Phi Mu's I really like, but they also admit that them, as a whole, are annoying and a little obnoxious.
Granted, every sorority on Elon's campus has their own quirks as to why the other chapter's don't like them. And I'll admit, my chapter is considered loud, party-hard, and have a tendancy to be also obnoxious. And i think for the most part, the other 6 sororities on elon's campus don't really care that much for phi mu. The main reason being, is that the Phi Mu's are always with themselves. Like, if you put 5 members from the 7 sororities on campus, for the most part everyone would mingle....everyone has friends in the other chapters except for the Phi Mu's. They would stand there in their group and act like they were better than everyone else. Which noone ever understands because, that doesn't even fit their "stereotype" (and yes, elon has lots of stereotypes!!!! I am not just saying that to be rude, thats reality there.) This kind of behavior is usually called "Being Pink" or a "Pink person" and thats used derogatorily throughout the campus. Like I could have a sister who is getting a little out of control cheering or getting overly cliquey and we would be like "Dude, stop being so Pink!". Even my friends in other GLO's use that term too. They also do things like if we are at a greek assembly for anti-hazing or drinking things they will break out in a cheer. Why? Noone knows why. Like we'll be all coming in, sitting in our assigned places and all of a sudden all the phi mu's will come in wearing letters, their new girls in their "i love phi mu" buttons and ribbons, and breaking out in a phi mu cheer. It is so annoying!!!! Noone else does those things. Thats just my two sense. I don't want to offend anyone, and I know all chapters are different everywhere and I am sure somewhere out there my GLO has a chapter out there just like that. |
Elon Phi Mu's
I've actually heard really good things about the Phi Mu's at Elon. My brother graduated from there in June, and I got to know them really well. Everyone I talked to up there was really supportive of them, too. I could be a little partial, but I thought they were great.

I know that some old high school friends of mine (a set of twins) pledged Phi Mu a couple years ago. They had a lot of fun doing thing with their sisters at University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
I didn't know their whole chapter but they were obviously good friends of mine so the girl must have been sweet! Hootie |
I wish we could all have opinons while not being so crude...there is a way to say anything tactfully.P.S. That goes for all these type questions...what is so and so like on your campus.

I am a Phi Mu @ FIU and I love it!!
We are doing great this year with 23 new phi's and many active sisters. We have a rep. with most guys to be down to earth and alot of fun...easy to get along with and for having great sisterhood.. I am also proud to report that we are the Fall 2001 Intermural champions!! we placed first in football, volleyball, and softball!!... we try to be as involved on campus as possible, we have sisters in SGA, peer advising, Dance Marathon, Panhellenic president, and vice president. we also are very supportive of all the greek letter organizations on campus, everytime someone has an event we are out there supporting. Im very glad to be a Phi Mu! I also think that every campus is different, and what may seem annoying or bad to some may seem great to others. Cheering and being proud doesn't sound annoying....it sounds like they are proud and willing to show just how proud by cheering with lots of Phi Mu spirit!! Still every campus has different girls and different people...it all depends how you look at it. |
I *LOVE* the Phi Mus on our campus! They are an awesome, diverse bunch of girls! Their chapter house is right next door to ours, so I know a lot of them fairly well. Very classy girls!!! Their GPA is always high, and they pledge quota or very close to. Their sisterhood is really great! Some people see it as they are snobby and do not talk to anyone else, but I have not seen this to be true at all! The Phi Mus just seem to generally enjoy being around each other. Also, they are athletic as well....many of their sisters are soccer, basketball, and softball players, and outstanding ones at that! Whenever our chapter has anything going on (a big philanthropy project, stuff like that), they always are the first house to volunteer and ask if we need anything. Great, great women....the Phi Mu GCers on the board should be proud!
