Rushing and Pledgeship at Bama

Hey y'all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Rush and Pledgeship at Bama. I looked the IFC website, but I guess more than anything I'm looking for clarification on how it works.

1. Do you visit all the houses? Or just select houses that show interest?

2. How prevalent is "summer bidding"? And would I be at a disadvantage being from out of state?

3. Is pledgeship really only 8 weeks long? That's what it states on the Bama IFC website. I've got friends at schools here in Texas and it seems as if their pledgeship lasted until right before they came home for Christmas break.

Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all.

1. You could visit them all, but how would you go to select houses that show interest without going there to know if they are interested?

2. Summer bidding. Huge for some fraternities, and meaningless for others.

3. 8 week pledgeship? At Bama?....Yeah right. Maybe "officially", but no decent SEC fraternity has an 8 week pledgeship.

From the people I know of that go to UA, summer bidding does happen more than a lot of the other schools in the SEC, but it'd be very useful to at least familiarize yourself with some of the Organizations, especially if you're out-of-state (as your username implies). It's competitive and some of the Fraternities there want to get their roster relatively squared away before classes start. If you are indeed from Texas, I'd check around to see if there are certain towns/cities that are "recruiting hot-spots" for UA...I'm pretty sure there are. Where? I'm not sure. If you can find out, then definitely try and get in touch with some people (for REC's, providing more information on the organizations, summer events, etc.).
