Spring Recruitment Suggestions

Our Spring recruitment is a bit lax where I'm at, but I would still like some personal suggestions about it. I'm worried because I don't see people really showing interest around campus, yet I know it is somewhere.

Didn't you just pledge last semester?

Yes, rush is everyone's job, but as for anything official or organized, let the older members handle it. Otherwise, speaking from experience, toes get stepped on and egos get hurt.

They are relying on us to recruit younger guys we already know around campus. Everything organized is handled with. It just seems like interest isn't there.

On my campus, spring recruitment was essentially getting the guys who were unsure of joining Fall Semester or recruiting friends of people who joined Fall Semester. Personal connections drove spring rush for all organizations (might have changed now since there are two new fraternities on campus).

Get the new, younger guys to bring their friends out to rush events.

Did you get guys who wanted to pledge first semester, but parents wouldn't let them? I knew a lot of spring (fraternity) pledges who first had to prove to their parents that they could get good grades.

To the OP, do you have friends from your dorm or whatever? Bring them over to the house (do you have houses?) and let the older guys worry about the hard sell "rush" part of it.

No houses, but we have rush events. We hang around the campus Hillel, which seems like the best option to bring potentials.

Most of the friends from my dorm I can tell aren't fraternity material, and would most likely not get a bid.

I'm really curious what you mean by that.

Definitely had many of those, too.

And if you aren't going to bring your friends out to Spring Rush events as a member who just joined last semester, you're really not helping your chapter out.

As in, grades we're terrible, generally beig against ritual values, etc. I know they wouldn't get a bid, let's say that.

What we do, everyone writes down two names of potential guys that we could see being a decent fit. So 40-50 guys in a chapter=80-100 new names. It gets harder the farther in you get as the pool will get smaller, but it's a good way to get some names going, we then personally call them or invite them out to rush events.
