Spirit Airlines: Double D's, MILF, MUFF, & Wieners

I'm amazed that I didn't see this sooner.

Has anyone seen any of Spirit Airlines' sex-driven ads? I mean, I know sex sells, but I feel like they're going extremely far with it.

They have Deep Discounts, Many Islands Low Fares, More Unbelievably Fantastic Fares (which they call MUFF Diving...), and then the wiener ads and the strippermobile.

Check out these:

This is the email my friend got which brought it to my attention:

I don't know, am I the only one who finds these extremely immature, unprofessional, and inappropriate?

I saw they had a WTF? ad which stood for 'World Traveler Fares' which I feel is totally different than slapping a pair of boobs on a banner and making a joke that a 17 year old would find hilarious for weeks.

1. Fares from $9?!?

2. I think it's a bit unconventional for an airline ad, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's inappropriate. It looks like they're trying to find a niche with youth (other low-fare airlines like Southwest cater more to business travelers than to weekend warriors), so they're doing what it takes to reach them.

3. FARES FROM $9!?!??

FARES FROM $9?!?!?
^I've yet to look into those since I'm still bitter.

But, personally, they're losing my youth business b/c of these types of advertisements. Even if they were naked dudes, I still wouldn't be inclined to mosey on over to Spirit b/c I remember the throbbing johnson in the back of their last ad.

To get the $9 fares you have to pay to join the $9 fare club. They send you lists of those fares and the dates you can use them. You can never get a $9 fare each way from the way the fares are scheduled and the return fare always seems to be almost twice what it would be normally. It's a gimmick and borders on a scam if you ask me. I was a member of the $9 fare club for a year and ditched it because it just wasn't worth it.

Plus, Spirit is the one who is charging for carry ons and for checked luggage so you pay either way. They charge for everything.. absolutely everything. You don't end up saving any money.

I just visited their site. I did a sample itinerary and found flights for 1.5 weeks from now for $8.01 each way. Wow.

I haven't heard much from Spirit (which is odd, considering my senior thesis was on the airline industry and I've kept up with them since then), but I think they're counting on the extremely low fares moreso than the ads to get people to their website.

Do you know what medium they were using for the (non-Double D) ads? That might affect their approach, too (ex. If they're using those on Facebook, but have a "good" ad in Newsweek, then it makes more sense).

Interesting. Thanks!

As far as the ads go...I'm clearly not a member of their target audience. After looking at them I feel the need to bathe.

I think through email. I know that wiener one is from an email and the Double D's are from an email my friend got yesterday or today.

But then you have the strippermobile driving through Vegas...

I think the Ads are a HUGE success...Because someone Posted them on a Forum, causing a Non-Spirit potential Client to go look up the company... LOL...

Spirit Airlines = Winning

Sorry...But you Just did what they hoped would happen. The Ad Department is Brilliant & got a Wonderful Yearend Bonus.

Okay, the ads may be working, but the main thing I'm getting at is that they're inappropriate.

That's what I'm sticking with.

If Spirit has extra tight seats, I'm in there. Yeah, squeeze me right on in there between your soft cushions. That's it.

Very Simple Question:

You found it inappropriate: Did you contact the company directly & tell them of your non-approval of their inappropriate ad? or did you just post it here so others could confirm your disapproval of this horrid corp giant?
