Penn State GPA requirements?

Hi, I was thinking about rushing in the Spring at Penn State for a sorority. I was just wondering does anyone know the GPA requirements in order to receive a bid? If so, does anyone know the requirements for individuals chapters? Not much information is online, thanks.

Every GLO has different requirements and there are even different requirements depending on your standing. There are often higher requirements for sophmorees & juniors vs. freshmen.

The specific GPA for membership is private information which is not divulged outside of Membership Selection.

Have a high GPA and you won't run into problems.

I don't actually know the minimum GPA to go through recruitment, however I know that our minimum to receive a bid is a 2.5 cumulative. Every sorority differs in this though, and the local minimum can be set higher that the national. At this point though your grades are in from fall so there really isn't anything you can do for spring recruitment. If worse comes to worse you could always study hard and pull your grades up in the spring and go through recruitment in the fall, but there are no guarantees there either.

My best advice is talk to people at the Greek life office in the HUB if you're concerned and they can give you more specific advice. And in the meantime start chatting up random people you run into over break and really strive to work on your conversation skills. There's a rumor going around that we may be raising total again and doing another semi-structured recruitment (and even if we're not, conversation skills never go amiss), so this will be helpful to you. Feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions. Best of luck, let us know how it goes!

Thanks ladies. One more question, if I rush in the Spring and don't receive a bid does this mean I can't rush again in the fall?

No, it doesn't. If you rush, receive a bid and don't accept it you can't rush in the fall, but that's a whole different kettle of fish.

I'm thinking you're over-thinking rush. Just relax. Que sera sera.

^^ Actually, depending on the style of rush we do in the spring, that might not be true. If it is truly informal events (not structured by Panhellenic at all) then you can go to as many as you like and potentially receive multiple bids and turn them all down.

IF however it is partially structured (which again is only a rumor at this point), there will be some restrictions on rush (i.e. you must go to every chapter for at least 15 minutes, there could be a potential invite-only round). In that case there may even be bid matching, but if this is the case I am certain that Panhellenic will explain it to you. Again, this is all only a hypothetical and it may have changed from when we did it two springs ago, so just try to go with it. Que sera sera, as DubaiSis said. And (as always) keep an open mind! Best of luck again.

But even that said, psusue, if she doesn't get a bid, she would be eligible to re-rush in the fall ?

Yes, any woman who goes through recruitment and does not receive a bid is eligible to re-rush whenever she would like. That is the same across campuses. However she must be released completely (be it formal recruitment) or simply not receive a bid (during informal).
