Can I get kicked out of my fraternity for being transgendered?
 

I'm a freshman in one of these fraternities but I'm not going to say which: (deleted).

I'm transgendered, born a guy, but I have never acted on it. Can I get kicked out for being trans?

I really like my fraternity, but i'm having trouble ignoring the issue lately.

If I don't act on it, will I still get kicked out? What if I do?

When I was pledging they have said over and over again, I was the best pledge since I was the most passionate and knowledgable in my pledge class. Does that make a difference?

This is such a weighted topic. To avoid my rant on transgenderism, I will just say that it depends on the fraternity culture, chapter culture, campus culture, and other factors. Good luck to you.

1. I suggest deleting the list of fraternities from your post.

2. There's no "across the board" answer for this question. I had a discussion recently about this and it's really going to depend on the organization. Some organizations haven't kept up with advances in sexual identity, though, so the language in constitutions/bylaws don't explicitly discuss this.

I think those were the ones I was thinking about, but they seemed to go off track very quickly.

If you are struggling with the concept of being transgendered (since you mention you've never acted upon it), I think you have bigger fish to fry than worrying about your fraternity membership. Get thee to some sort of counselor specializing in assisting people in your situation ASAP.
