SciFi Appreciation Thread

So I was doing some searching to see if there were any recent threads on scifi, no luck. I would love to find some fellow scifi nerds on here, because I love to talk about it and I'm also looking for some new shows to watch.

The series that I like
- Battlestar Galactica
- Firefly
- Stargate (all franchises, but I liked Universe the best)
- Star Trek: TNG
- Caprica

I grew up watching Dr. Who but lost track of the show after David Tennant left, so I have literally seen all of the doctors ever except for the new one. Recommendations?

This is kind of like the Geek Thread theat DaemonSeid started. Awesome thread.:p

I'm a huge Trekkie. I have every season on DVD. Not so much the original, but the Next Generation and so forth. I'm like the biggest nerd ever. Anything related to astrophysics is right down my alley. I always like watching Star Trek because they don't leave any of the realism out. Thanks for starting this thread.:)

By Battlestar I assume you mean the new one and not the old Rattlestar. Never got into Caprica, and I kind of liked SGU but the jury is still out. It was good but too like BSG in my opinion. DS9 is my favorite of the Star Treks. I also really really like 2 shows on the old SciFi channel Warehouse 13 and Sanctuary. I also really really liked First Wave from years ago.

I like V. I also really like the original Star Trek and all of its spin-offs. Next Generation is my favorite; it takes the original just a step further. My husband and I like to look for the theology/philosophy references in all of them ("Live long and prosper" "Resistance is futile" etc.) The Vulcans especially interest me, and I think that the tribbles should have had their own show.
There was a Star Trek Convention out here at a convention center and we ran into some "Klingons" -- we still laugh about it.

I'm a Huge Trekkie Fan. I'm more into Star Trek: TOS, Star Trek: The Animated Series, All the Star Trek Movies and TNG.

I've seen the Battlestar Original series. I have never seen the reboot edition.

Stargate was good.

Dr. Who is also good. I did caught the last season that was on Syfy.

TV series I like:
BSG (the reimagined series, not the original)
Firefly
V
Caprica
Eureka
X-Files

I've never really gotten into Star Trek, and I just don't get Dr. Who ...

Do you include fantasy in the Sci Fi genre? Or just futuristic?

I'm a big Star Wars fan (the original movie series, not so much the prequals). I also was an X Files fanatic back in the day.

If fantasy is included, I'm all about LOTR, The Outlander Series (by Diana Gabaldon), The Martian Chronicles, and Harry Potter.

ST: Next Generation
X Files

Ditto on all of this!

If it's SciFi, there's a pretty good chance I'll love it. Right now, I'm making my way back through all the episodes of Star Trek. I've finished up TNG and am currently working on DS9. Next up will be Voyager followed by (gasp) Enterprise and finally TOS.

Some of my favorites over time have been Dr. Who (the sexiest SciFi series ever made), X-Files, The 4400, Eureka, Torchwood, Sanctuary, Lexx, and the first Stargate for tv.

One of the major themes I appreciated (appreciate? Aren't they still running it?) about Torchwood was the overt homosexuality and its acceptance.

I feel like Warehouse 13 was too predictable, as was V (the tv show I mean).

In addition, there have been a bunch of miniseries that I have loved, but I can't ever remember what they're all called.

I love this thread! Hopefully one of you will turn me onto something I don't know about.

OH! I forgot Fringe. I love that show. I haven't watched it in about 2 seasons though, so I'm way behind. I'll have to watch it all online at some point.

OMG Fringe is in my DVD player as we speak! Love it! I think it's clever how they use colors in the intro to define where they are. That's all I'll say in case others aren't familiar with the premise of the show.

Favorite science fiction:

BSG (new)
Caprica
BSG (original)
and pretty much any Gibson novel you can name.

I liked Firefly, but it's not my favorite, although the actors are charming. I'm really fond of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog. I thought the most recent Captain America movie was terrific. I haven't seen X-Men: First Class, yet.

Favorite urban fantasy:
Buffy
the Dresden Files

Favorite historical fantasy:
The King's Peace and the King's Name
Devil's Engine and Devil's Tower
College of Magic

The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie is terrific. The Three Musketeers movie with Oliver Platt was also terrific.

Last week I was not feeling good and anticipating a sick day I checke dout the Doctor Who DVD from the library. I sat and watched all six episodes that I had in one day. I am now rather obsessed with that show. It was so good and I am embarassed it took me this long to realize it.

I love Star Trek having grown up watching TNG and DS9. To this day I still have a geek crush on Wesley Crusher/Wil Wheaton. My husband got me hooked on Star Wars when we started dating (I know, I am late to the party on a lot of this).

I loved X Files, the original Stargate (haven't watched any of the others) and will miss Eureka terribly!
