special granting of Alumni status?

is it possible that when a member who was deactived by exect. office because of financial problems to be granted special alumni status if she has proven herself in the community and has become kind of famous and would be a great person for nationals to list as a famous alumni????

Ummmm......that depends on what you mean by "kind of famous." Even if someone super famous (say Madonna) was in this situation, I doubt the sorority would recognize her as a member unless she made a commitment to work for and on behalf of the sorority. (and paid the $$$ she owed)

I was having financial difficulties this semester because of a few unforseen car problems (gotta love those). I approached my chapter and was given a few options and the only one that worked for me was to promise to pay what I could through the end of the semester. Lucky for me I'm moving so I'm being granted alumni status because I'll be transferring and next semester would be my last in Chi Omega anyway!
I would simply approach YOUR executive board and work out a payment plan for you. If it's REALLY important that you be considered alum then you'll find a way. And likewise, if they're true sisters, they'll make a way too!
Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

In Delta Zeta, if someone's membership is severed because of failure to meet the financial obligations of the sorority, then the only way to be reinstated as a member in good standing is to make good on the debts owed and then make a formal appeal to National Headquarters. It is up to National to decide if the sorority should allow the person's membership to be reinstated after the debt has been paid in full.

Delta Zeta works with sisters in financial difficulties to help them remain in good standing. We offer scholarships and payment plan opportunities, so there is really no reason for someone to be severed for financial reasons unless the person just flat out doesn't pay their dues for no valid reason.

If that is the case then, personally, I don't care how famous someone is. If they don't meet the obligations that are required by Delta Zeta, then they shouldn't BE a Delta Zeta. I don't feel that celebrities should be given special treatment simply because of their star status. There are a lot of celebrities out there who I wouldn't want as my sisters --- no matter how big their names are.

Just my .02 :)

Frankly, I could never could understand why there were guys who couldnt pay. There were always a few that always went MIA and only came out when we had a rager planned or formal. With me I had to take loans out to pay for my education and I had to get a job. I scheduled work around meetings and I made every meeting. I never really understood the people that had a hard time paying. The first thing I always paid when I started my semester was my dues. Really, how much beer money are you going to sacrfice by paying your dues first. So what if you miss a few parties. There always will be a party to go to, but what does your membership mean to you.

That would be good advice for some, but for others it's not so easy scraping together the extra money to pay dues. I know for one that unforseen circumstances can come up that cause people to have to be responsible adults and decide what they're going to spend their money on that month - dues or rent, dues or insurance, dues or new car breaks...

Thats true. Your right about the unforseen circumstances. I could see how that stuff would effect your ability to pay. :)
