Veterans Day/Remembrance Day 11/11/11
November 11th is Remembrance Day in Canada, Veterans Day in the U.S. and Armistice Day in England so lets all please take a 2 minute moment of silence at 11 am to remember them all, its a pittance of time, and please thank a Veteran when ever you can! No matter what Day it is!
This is a rather well done and powerful song: (Take) A Pittance of Time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kX_3...eature=related They fought and some died for their homeland. They fought and some died, now it's our land. Look at his little child; there's no fear in her eyes. Could he not show respect for other dads who have died? Take two minutes, would you mind? It's a pittance of time, For the boys and the girls who went over. In peace may they rest, may we never Forget why they died. It's a pittance of time. God forgive me for wanting to strike him. Give me strength so as not to be like him. My heart pounds in my breast, fingers pressed to my lips, My throat wants to fall out, my tongue barely resists. But two minutes I will bide. It's a pittance of time, For the boys and the girls who went over. In peace may they rest. May we never forget why they died. It's a pittance of time. In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. |
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. |
Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,
Sleep sweet - to rise anew! We caught the torch you threw And holding high, we keep the Faith With All who died. We cherish, too, the poppy red That grows on fields where valor led; It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies, But lends a lustre to the red Of the flower that blooms above the dead In Flanders Fields. And now the Torch and Poppy Red We wear in honor of our dead. Fear not that ye have died for naught; We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought In Flanders Fields. In Flanders Fields we fought |

I will be giving my father a call tomorrow. He served in Vietnam. He got his draft notice on Christmas Eve of the year he and my mother got married. :( But he didn't shirk his responsibility - he did his part and saved a lot of lives during his service with the Army Medical Corps.
My thanks to all who serve, and who have served, in the armed forces of this nation - and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. |
In 1918, inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields," Moina Michael replied with her own poem:
We Shall Keep the Faith Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields, Sleep sweet - to rise anew! |

O valiant hearts who to your glory came through dust of conflict and through battle flame; tranquil you lie, your knightly virtue proved, your memory hallowed in the land you loved. Proudly you gathered, rank on rank, to war as who had heard God's message from afar; all you had hoped for, all you had, you gave, to save mankind — yourselves you scorned to save. Splendid you passed, the great surrender made; into the light that nevermore shall fade; deep your contentment in that blest abode, who wait the last clear trumpet-call of God. Long years ago, as earth lay dark and still, rose a loud cry upon a lonely hill, while in the frailty of our human clay, Christ, our Redeemer, passed the self-same way. Still stands his Cross from that dread hour to this, like some bright star above the dark abyss; still, through the veil, the Victor's pitying eyes look down to bless our lesser Calvaries. These were his servants, in his steps they trod, following through death the martyred Son of God: Victor, he rose; victorious too shall rise they who have drunk his cup of sacrifice. O risen Lord, O Shepherd of our dead, whose cross has bought them and whose staff has led, in glorious hope their proud and sorrowing land commits her children to thy gracious hand. John Stanhope Arkwright’s hymn “O Valiant Hearts”. |
