Bingamton Alpha Xi Delta chapter loses charter
Binghamton University's chapter of Alpha Xi Delta (AZD), Zeta Phi, lost its charter Monday, making it the second BU sorority chapter to lose its charter within the year.http://www2.bupipedream.com/news/alp...4#.TrSklnGek2d |
Really not loving "AZD" being used every other word.

You'll never EVER see me use Z for Xi. I hate it and you're right. Others will think it's ok if we keep doing it. Attention advisors: Nag your girls to stop doing that!
I'm sorry to hear about this chapter. Hopefully we can re-establish there soon, with maybe some more strict guidance. I was especially disturbed about the "it wasn't all her fault" comment about the girl who contacted national. If it was an actual hazing incident it wasn't ANY her fault. And if there was any grey area, FHQ wouldn't have pulled the charter so quickly. Since 2 chapters lost their charter within a year, it sounds like there is a campus culture that needs to be adjusted. |
^^^^Re: campus culture adjustments: I've worked with groups whose campus cultures are very much like this school. It's SO much easier said than done (unfortunately.)
Totally guilty on the AZD thing (just because that's what my campus' chapter of Alpha Xi Delta used all the time.) I think it's better than Fuzzie, though. I heard that, from someone who went to a school where Alpha Xi uses that and I was seriously like "WTF sorority is THAT?" Took me a minute to register that it was AXiD. So weird. |
You bring up a huge "family" argument about Fuzzie. I'd have died a thousand deaths to be called a Fuzzie in college, but now I think it's really cute. Maybe I take myself a smidge less seriously these days. ;) Only about a thousand times less so.
I hate to lose a chapter but I strongly believe if it is REAL hazing, there can be zero tolerance. I'm sure it can take YEARS to rebuild a campus Greek system once they've decided to accept the modern idea of what it is to be Greek. Hopefully this is their goal. But I wish them the best of luck. |
