NaNoWriMo 2011

Any GCers doing it this year?

(NaNoWriMo)

I started last year but quit - it was too stressful! And November is just not a good time for me. I could have given over all the time in the world in July. But one of these years I'll do it! Good luck to you on your journey, and don't be like me. Keep at it even if you can't get to the entire 50,000 words.

Maybe you need to try Camp NaNoWriMo. :D

And thanks!

I would love to do this, but I don't know nearly enough about how to write fiction or construct a story.

And, if I wrote about my real life, it would be *yawn*. There are only so many cute Belgian stories people will read about "my dog broke my nose" or "my other dog caught a peacock". My neighbor finally got rid of her screaming, screeching birds. The rattlesnakes are hibernating. I'm pretty content.

Mr. MC, go for it!

I'm doing it. Haven't actually started yet, but I have the story in mind and just need to get done with work for the day so I can start writing. I have done it the last 5 years and have won 4 of them!

This is probably the biggest misconception about writing fiction ... I mean, a lot of things "happen" in many excellent (particularly 'modern American') novels without there being a large, overarching tale construction. Bukowski's "Ham on Rye" has approximately nothing happen in the grander arch - the important things are the individual tales, the writing, etc.

Just start writing, and see what happens - you may just have more to say than you think.

I participated in 2009 and it really did change my life. It got me over my writer's block/procrastination by teaching me tools for JUST WRITING.

I won't be participating in it hard core this year because this is a busy time at work for me, BUT, I will be sending collective positive energy to all my fellow novelists out there who are participating.

I am also going to take the time to do some research and outlining for a few novels I have planned.

I'm planning on participating. My November is much smoother this year, so I think it will go well. :)

Between audit reports and papers for school, I think I'm easily topping 50K words a month, but it isn't fun. It does consume all my time though.

I'm in! Fifth year, shooting for a fifth win. Ten years, Jen, wow(kowtowing)!

I'm never sure how it's going to go, but it always does, and it is, indeed, an enlivening and uplifting experience for me. I always think I'm too busy (and I am), but this one month of the year is MINE. And I've actually come up with a few pretty good stories. Love it!

Go NaNo and good luck, everyone!

I was going to take a stab at it, then we decided to move. So I'm going to do a slightly different take on it - I'm going to do the research project I always meant to do, while I still have ready access to the SU archives.

That'll eventually become a writing project. Maybe next year's NaNoWriMo. :-)

I'm participating too. I'm already behind, but still excited

ElieM 11-04-2011 02:37 AM

I'm participating, but November is hella busy. I'm just trying to beat my word count from last year (a small 10,000)

Seriously. So far, November is not a good month for this, but I will try to slog on.

CougADPi 11-06-2011 12:22 AM

My kiddo told me what my plot should be. I just had to share: Percy Jackson and a mermaid, along with their pet, Perry the Platypus, team up with the Power Rangers to fight Mogers and a long armed monster. They live in a house that can turn in to a robot, and go to a church that turns in to an invisible monster truck (though if you punch it, it turns crimson).

I may need more than 50,000 words....
