ATO Suspended for Five Years at U of New Hampshire
HI Kevin, and hi LaneSig -- for your list(s)?
New Hampshire has suspended the Alpha Tau Omega chapter for five years. Providing alcohol to underage people was the "last straw," a UNH person is quoted as saying. See http://www.fosters.com/apps/pbcs.dll...S_01/710249959 |
Reading the article, it seems the university may have an ulterior motive at work here. The ATO house is right smack dab in the middle of downtown Durham and the article explains that there are a lot of private individuals who want to acquire that property for redevelopment and that the town has been considering acquiring the property via eminent domain so it can be redeveloped as a hotel or something to that effect.

I cannot understand what they are thinking for 5 years ... that would mean they have to pretty much recolonize and start fresh. I wish them the best, ATO is a pretty good fraternity standing wise at most colleges in my area.

Update: ATO house determined "unhabitable," (safety violations), has been closed
Police reportedly found safety violations when they were conducting a drug raid and arresting members. Reportedly more arrests may be coming. See http://www.boston.com/news/local/new..._in_drug_raid/ See also http://www.seacoastonline.com/articl...NEWS-111109798 And a more recent update: ATO HQ has rescinded the chapter's charter (not the greatest of surprises here). The Sacramento Bee, just about as far away as you can get in the US without leaving the contiguous states, reports: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/11/07/403...r-revoked.html or see: http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/u...-raid-14899712 |
