Excuses Excuses Excuses

Whats everyones favorite excuse to turn down someone for a date. This ought to be great. :D

If it is someone I am not interested in... my fav to use is "I am interested in someone else."

The1calledTKE 11-26-2001 02:30 PM

Since I have been dating the same girl for 2 years I haven't had to use any excuses. What I used to say when I was still in the market was I just don't feel like dating right now, I need to "ME" time. Or I would say I am just to busy with school work right now to go on a date, I need to do well in my classes.

The standard response was...."I have a boyfriend."
Another was, "I just got out of a relationship and I'm not ready to date."

Oh, I hate being mean and sadly, have not had THAT many opportunities to turn people down(oops, not how that sounds-I mean not to many people have asked me out, not that I am sad I can't say no to more people :) ) but I always like that I am to busy at this time for anything more but when things slow down, lets see what happens. That way, if its just someone you aren't sure of, you can have a few weeks or months to scope them out and if its someone you REALLY don't like, you can just play busy till they move on.

I absolutely hate to hurt someones feelings..but if I am trying to get out of a date, I either say I am sick...my dog is sick...one of my female friends just broke up with her bf and needs me or completely avoid their phone calls altogether (thank the lord for caller id!), I have had to switch my aol username like 4 times due to people who had my email address and didnt get the hint!

word for word?

"Awww, hon, I'm so flattered you think of me that way, but really, I don't want to lead you on or make you think I feel things that i don't. I think you're great, and it's not you, its me, but i don't really want to get involved in anything right now, and i'm afraid that a date might put us in that situation. You mean too much to me as a friend to risk ruining that relationship. I'm sorry... :( "

Heh heh heh...:)

Sorry, but I'm actually an undercover monk and I can't date you.

I've never turned down a free dinner. Besides, you never know who will surprise you.

amycat412 11-26-2001 04:27 PM

"Thanks, but I'm seeing someone..."

or, if we've gone out once and I don't have any interest when the second date comes up;...

"I had a good time meeting you, but I've become exclusive with someone else since we last went out"

or

"Thanks, I really enjoyed meeting you, but I just don't feel we have enough in common/enough chemistry to take this any furhter"

I HAVE learned that honesty--re: that last response is the best, because they feel like, well at least she's being honest AND it keeps them from calling again in a few weeks to see if I've stopped seeing that other guy.

You have to remember the whole 6 degrees to seperation rule. A friend tells a friend who tells a friend who tells a friend etc.

Suddenly everyone really believes it.

"I don't think it would be right - see, I have this friend, and he really likes you . . . I don't want to be 'that guy' you know . . . " (that one's a freakin classic)

"I don't think I could do that to our friendship - I really value you in that position, and I think I would mess things up."

"I have way too much on my plate as it is - it wouldn't be fair to you to start something else . . . "

"You're a very cool girl, I'd be lucky to have you - but I'm just not into it like that right now . . ."

"Wait - if we start going out, does this mean I'll get laid?" (that'll get rid of just about anyone . . . hahaha)

There's some good ones out there - just round up all your asshole friends (everyone has a few), and send 'em after girls they're not into. The lines will be classic - "I'm gay" looks tame in comparison . . .

AlphaChiS2K 11-26-2001 10:07 PM

"I value our friendship too much"

"One of my sisters has liked you for a long time, and I can't do that to her."

"I'm not ready fro that kind of committment"

"You're too good for me"

riiiiiggghhhhhtttt.

"I just don't think I'm up to the challenge of dating such a major player"
