Spring Fraternity Rush at TCU

I'm here!

Spring rush for fraternities at TCU is usually very informal. Anywhere between 2-5 fraternities may participate and it usually just depends on if the fraternities want to take a spring class or not. Some fraternities may have spring rush events that you might be invited to. If you do, you must go if you want the chance to receive a bid.

IFC may have you register so that fraternities can access your information to get in contact with you. HOWEVER, this does not mean fraternities will contact you. Some fraternities may only give bids to kids they already know and have hung out with over the course of the semester. Thus, it is very important that you start trying to make friends with other freshman who are in fraternities. Build those connections now and then in a couple month's time bring it up in conversation tell them that you are interested in spring rush and were wondering if their fraternity would have be having events.

Keep in mind that several fraternities do not have any type of spring rush or spring pledgeship because of the stigma that goes along with it. For whatever reason, some fraternities view spring pledges as second-rate because their pledgeship might be considered easier, but this is a case-by-case basis.

Explore your options, do not think that you can only pledge ABC or XYZ fraternities because they are the best houses and throw the best parties. They probably aren't doing spring rush anyway. There is also a new fraternity on campus, Beta Theta Pi, who is in the midst of a colonization right now. They will definitely be doing spring rush. The colony experience is very unique and rewarding, but also challenging. It is not the traditional fraternity experience you may really want to have. But it is something to consider.

Feel free to PM if you have any other questions. I can provide more detailed advice and I am glad to help seeing as I'm in a fraternity at TCU.

Thanks Ebdelt. I didn't realize there was a stigma that went with Spring rush. I think that many of us went through rush in the Fall to take a look, see how it worked and then planned to go through more seriously as sophomores. Now we realize that Greek life is huge on campus and want to get involved sooner than our sophomore year. What are the pros and cons of going through Spring rush vs going through next Fall as a sophomore?

Anyone know which fraternities will have Spring Rush?

I'm going to lane swerve here... the benefits to joining in the Spring versus waiting until next fall is you get to start having the fun all that much sooner. It sounds like you will have limited choices at TCU in the spring. However, that doesn't mean you would end up with a lower quality Greek experience.

If nothing else, go through (using ebdelt's wisdom and advice) and if you don't feel a connection, wait until fall.
