like say there are 8 bigs that dont have littles. this means they can only give out 8 bids right, or one little will be left without a big???

No. In formal recruitment, the number of bids given out is determined by the number of women participating.

With informal recruitment, things are different. Chapters typically only give out as many bids as they have spots to fill. So that's different for every chapter.

Also, not every chapter does Big/LIttle the same way. However, almost any chapter makes sure that EVERY NM has a Big Sister, although how Bigs/Littles are determined depends on the chapter.

I've never heard of a chapter determining bids based on the number of potential Big Sisters. That makes no sense.

Where on earth did this - and you - come from? Most groups try to initiate their holdovers before recruitment so that they can fully participate in recruitment. So, most groups would have the whole chapter available (less any people specifically excluded for whatever reasons) to be bigs. So if there were 50 members in the chapter, I'd say about 40 could....and some take 2 when it's a large NM class. If you've read anything about how quota is established - and I know you have - then this question isn't even logically possible. Must be summerpledge's twin separated at birth....or maybe 3 faces of Eve???
