I am considering pledging a sorority...
I am totally new to this concept and need some help. Can anyone pinpoint me some threads here that cover topics such as rushing a sorority and the like. Can someone also explain the timeline for joining a sorority, such as when rush occurs, and the steps taken before you can be sworn in. Sorry if I am calling these the wrong things, I don't know much about this but I really want to be in one. Also, any tips for good sororities to pledge?

Maybe try the section called Sorority Recruitment?

Also, what do I wear to recruitment?

How in God's name should we know? Ask your Greek Life office. They know more about it than we do because we don't know what school you attend!

1. What is rush? 2. What is recruitment? 3. What is the ceremony called where you bid to join? 4. Does hazing really happen? 5. What's the difference between initiation and hazing? |
lmao.... I wonder if this is summersurf's sister....
You should ask your sister, Pledgeypoo. |

As for the other things you asked, DO A SEARCH on the topics you asked about. Read the threads that come up in the search, and then if you have any questions AFTER reading the threads, let us know. |
The OP would be the troll formerly known as luckygirl.

Oh she was banned? Tsk, bless her heart...

Rush and recruitment are the same thing. Recruitment is what it's called now. Rush was the old term. It is the process that a potential new member (you) goes through to possibly receive a bid to a sorority. There are various methods but it involves group get togethers where you meet sorority members - usually structured parties. You might get a bid at the end of recruitment. It is an invitation to become a new member of a sorority and pledge and in all likelihood initiate into that sorority as an active member. Hazing does happen, but not in every chapter, and what you hear about particular sororities hazing may be rumors or may not be. We don't know. Initiation is the ceremony after pledging when you learn the secrets of the sorority and become a member. Hazing is the illegal act of already initiated members forcing pledges to do anything really, since they are pledges. Hazing and initiation really have nothing to do with each other. |
