Something to think about

First of all I must say Hello to all the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I had a few friends over and we ended up talking about something very interesting that I thought I would bring to you. There is a female that we know who use to be a stripper. She made the decision to get her life together and go to college, and this is now her second year. My friends and I have no clue why she didn't go to college in the first place because she is really smart. Anyway, She now has an interest in sororities. My question to you is, if it was your chapter she was seeking membership in and she had everything else in place (grades, community service, nice personality, etc...) could you see yourself accepting her???

Some of the responses we received were really interesting. I thought it would be even better from women who are members of a sorority.

Hi, I'm NOT a member of any sorority, however I feel that your friend has shown that she has obviously GROWN and MATURED. I'm happy for your friend in that she was able to overcome that particular STAGE in her life and move on to bigger, better, and more positive things.

It's like this. Who am I to judge what she's done in the past. Who knows, maybe she felt that she HAD to strip in order to pay bills or whatever. EVERYONE has some "skeletons" in their closet and I'm CERTAINLY no different. In my opinion, what she used to do (and this is the case with MANY people, INCLUDING me) probably has NOTHING to do with her personality, character, ambition, sincerity, etc. Your friend's past experiences is more than likely a "testimony" and could be seen as inspirational for others. I'm thinking "what if the sorority that I desire to become a part of decided NOT to give me an opportunity to join JUST BECAUSE they found out that I got pregnant while in college". The KEY to stories like this is for others to FIND OUT THE TRUE STORY and not just take things at face value. Most of the time, our experiences, no matter to WHAT degree, were phases/stages/mistakes that we HAD to go through in order to make us better people in the long run. Who knows, your friend may be the next NATIONAL PRESIDENT for the organization that she desires to become a part of.

Good luck to your friend and I'll be praying for her.
