Obliged to rank only one house. Pref night. Scared to not get a bid.
Hi guys,
I'm in pretty small school and there is only three sororities. I've been rushing, but going through hard stuff at the bad moments, I really went only to the events of my fav house, and.. I got an invite for Pref Night! Which is very soon :) I was, of course, very happy, then I began to stress out. It's the only house I can put on my pref card (because they are the only house who invited me, but I don't care, since it's the one I want). I'm so scared I won't get a bid the day after. I'd be devasted. If anyone could reassure me, I'd feel better. Thanks :) this is not suiciding, though I can only put them on my pref card. I read a lot of threads about suiciding, etc, but this is not the case and I couldn't find anything about it... So, in my case, how does it work? How much are my chances to get in? Thanks :) |
We can't tell you what your chances are.

List the sorority on your card. You now have a choice of mindf**king yourself until Bid Day or letting it go and hoping for the best. You decide. |
First, thanks for answering so quickly.
Actually, I've read the threads... What I meant was, my chances are less than if I've been invited to two pref parties, right? ("maximize options") I can only put the one sorority I'm invited to on my card. :/ Yes, you're right AlphaGam. Hopefully everything will turn out right and I'll come back to say proudly I'm a new member of this house I love so much :) But, it's normal to be stressed, right? I bet you were also... :/ :) |
If you only get one pref invitation and you put that chapter down on your bid card, you are maximizing your options. Someone who doesn't maximize their options is someone who attends 2 or 3 prefs but only puts 1 down.

This was also before GreekChat and social networking, so I wasn't really surrounded by experiences (positive and unfortunate) outside my own campus. |
From what the OP said .. this sounds like a minimally structured recruitment. IE, PNMs allowed to attend only events that they want to. With this type of recruitment, formal bid matching may not be done and RFM probably isn't used. Chapters may be allowed to only bid to total .. ie no quota is set. In this case, we really can't say what her chances are. She didn't maximize her chances by attending events at all chapters so all her eggs are in one basket.

I think I know the school she's talking about, as it sounds like she couldn't attend a lot of events, not that they weren't mandatory. (which yes, at most schools would lead you to being dropped from recruitment, but if I'm right, this is a small school with fairly lax rules).
If it is the school I'm thinking it is, a quota was set. (I'm basing my guess by pref being today, bid day being tomorrow, 3 sororities on campus, and the sentence structure by the OP as the school I'm thinking has a VERY large population of foreign students) ETA : On second thought, ignore me. I don't think I'm thinking of the right school after all.... |
Re hello guys :)
Thank you so much for your help and your answers! I feel better thanks to you! Have a great day :)) |
Your recruitment counselor is always a great person to talk with. Talk with her and then go see a movie and try to relax. I wish you the best, waiting can be very hard.
