So it's bid night right now and I'm worried and unsure that I should be in a sorority at all. My reasoning for this is that I didn't click with my pledge class that much but the sisters seem to love me. Also, I'm worried about a loss of study time and potential regrets. I feel bad cause I've been watching girls cry over these spots that I could potentially be taking from them and I know that I really don't CARE about this stuff as much as them. Like when everyone was crying I didn't have any emotions at all. Why don't I feel anything? Should I accept a bid anyway?

You haven't even accepted the bid, but you're worried that you haven't clicked with your pledge class?

utaustin 08-22-2011 06:40 PM

NOTE: I say this being unbiased, as Bid Day for UT-Austin is tomorrow. Also, if you read my other posts, I withdrew this morning.

Good job for you on getting the top two interested in you. However, you must ask yourself --

Do I really want to be in a sorority? Your pledge class will be your friends for the next few years. Though you might find others, you might not.

Did you do it just to see if you could get in? Did you do it to make friends?

Like it or not, you will be taking spots from girls that want them. Only accept a bid if you want it.

FSUZeta 08-22-2011 06:42 PM

how can you click with a pledge class that has not been formed yet?

KSUViolet06 08-22-2011 06:49 PM

"Clicking" isn't always instant and it doesn't happen immediately the day you accept your bid.

Think of it this way, you and your best friend (if you have one) didn't become friends overnight.

It took time.

It's the same thing with a sorority.

Friendships within a sorority take time and effort just like any other relationship.

Either accept the bid, and take the time to get to know them, and see if you "click" or don't.

No kidding.

Where are the truly entertaining trolls, the ones where the train wreck .gif gets posted, and IBTL and the sequins and the volcano and all the good stuff? This batch = *yawn*

Really? Interesting, since you titled that other thread "Cut from UT Austin recruitment on preference night. Made it this far. What do I do?"

Oh, MC...tisk, tisk. Please see the Sorority Recruitment Translation Thread. What she meant was..."I was cut from the worthwhile groups so I dropped out hoping to get a snap bid on the million in one chance that the groups that don't want me won't make quota."

I got cut from all of the groups. I withdrew totally from the process so that I couldn't get snap bids.

It just wasn't meant to happen, and I don't want to be waiting around to get rejected.

That's not really what that means.

And, for the love of GOD, please learn to use the Quote button in the lower right corner of the post you want to comment on. It is painful to read your posts.
