How do sororities view piercings?
|
With their eyes.
Seriously, though, there is no standard across the board. Some members don't care; some do. |
It depends on the members, but it also depends on the piercings. Many sorority members have discreet studs in their noses & ears (other than the usual). Some have eyebrow piercings, or tongue piercings. Few have snake bites, or that weird Elsie the Cow ring through the septum (seriously, I can't figure out why anyone would get that one, which practically begs for the bovine comparison).
Even if the members have any of these more unusual piercings, they will probably have to take them out for rush, so you might take that as your cue. I understand, though, if you're absolutely wedded to your snakebites (or whatever) and want to keep them ("not hide your personality"). Even so, I would recommend taking them out for the first and maybe even second rounds, to make the best possible first impression, and put them in for Skit/Sisterhood rounds, once the girls get to know you a little better, and the rounds become more conversation-based. I would take them out again for Pref, personally, since I don't think radical piercings fit well with the somber & formal tone of Preference Night. Do know that you have them, and depending on what they are, you may be "piercing girl," and it may affect your recruitment. Or not. |
My personal thoughts (and how I think a lot of the other girls in MY chapter only would react):
-1-2 piercings in the ears, cute. I love cute earrings and they can be a great conversation starter and draw attention to your face. A discreet third hole might even be OK. One cartilage is ok, I personally hate bars and traegus (sp?) piercings, and of course gauges. -A cute nose stud- on the right person, I love it. But it has to be a little stud, not a giant ring-ew. -A small eyebrow ring- depends, could go either way. -Tongue-not a fan. -Bellybutton-well, you shouldn't be showing it during recruitment anyway! This is definitely not representative of every sorority woman. But personally, if I were recruiting a girl with a piercing I didn't love, like a bar in the cartilage, if she had a stellar personality I would never notice or care about her piercing. Snake bites would be a different story. Use judgement/common sense, and err on the conservative side if you're really worried. |

Okay, thanks so much. I didn't know if it was a "definite no" type thing or what. I think I'll be removing it for now.
