Concert Stage At the Indiana State Fair Collapses

4 killed and 40 injured

It happened just as Sara Barilles finished and right before Sugarland was to come on stage.
Indiana State Fair is cancelled today

Sara Bareilles and Sugarland were supposed to be at the Iowa State Fair today. That show has been cancelled

This is the 3rd stage collapse in the past month or so. First was the July stage collapse during the Ottawa Bluesfest, while my beloved Cheap Trick was on stage. Only one injury there requiring hospitalization. CT later cancelled a show in Vancouver because the stage was provided by the same company from the Ottawa collapse. CT got some some grief in the media/social media for cancelling that show, and for publicly stating they won't perform on stages done by that company in the future. Next collapse was at a Flaming Lips show in Tulsa a couple weeks later, not sure on any injuries during that one though. Now this horrible situation at the IN State Fair. All three collapses are related to a storm, in Ottawa's and Indy's cases a "gust front"? I don't know if the same company (Berger did the stage for Ottawa) did all three stages, but will be interested to find out.

My heart aches for those injured or killed last night. I cannot even imagine going to a show and then enduring such a tragedy.

^^^I think Atomic did the Sugarland stage for their most recent tours. However when it is a State Fair the stage may have been a little less intricate and the stage and lighting may have been handled by another group contracted by the fair organizers or the state agency in charge. This is not good for the group (Sugarland) if it is their stage or in any event for the lighting and stage companies. Lots of lawsuits. This could however be considered an "act of God" but...

My prayers go out to the families of those who died and also to those injured and their families. Unfortunately, they are saying that the death toll may rise. Lets pray it does not.

I'm hoping the toll doesn't rise. I was supposed to be at tonight's cancelled concert

God bless. :(

Other reports keep saying at least 5 were killed. I pray that one less life was lost.

I just saw the footage of the collapse. I had NO. I. DEA. I thought the floor of stage just fell but the entire set, the lights, everything....wow. That was horrifying. My prayers go out to those injured and all who witnessed such a tragedy. It had to be traumatizing to watch that in person.

It's not really surprising. These are temporary stages put up for a short period of time. If a strong enough storm comes along, I would expect that they wouldn't hold up well. I would think that when a storm was coming up that people would get the heck out of there.
