Unusual Rush Situation
 

Hi Y'all,


I have a bit of an unique situation and would love some advice. While in high school I participated in a program that allowed me to earn college credits while in high school and graduated with one year completed. After.. graduating I went to college for a year and had to take a break last year due to complicated famly issues. Now, I have transferred universities and would love to pledge a sorority.


This is really my sophomore year of college considering the time I had to take off. However, I have roughly 53 credits because of the classes I took while in high school. Should I consider myself a sophomore with my 53 credits or consider myself a junior? I am asking because I know not rushing my freshman is going to severely hurt my chances of getting a bid. Rush at my school is very competitive. Also, I have heard that being a junior would actually help me out as they do not count as part of the quota but rather are just extra additions added on to a previous pledge class.

Also, I forgot to mention that almost all of my credits transferred in as electives. This means that I am very behind and will probably end up taking 3 years to graduate!

With 53 credits, you're a sophomore.

Your situation is more common than you would think. PH will report to the chapters what the University considers your class standing to be.

And what you are describing is called "upperclass quota." It's not added on to a previous year. Upperclassmen are just not included with freshman quota, giving the older student a better shot at a place. Keep in mind though, that having an upperclass quota does not require the chapters to take those people. It just gives them the opportunity to if they want them. You'll be fine.

Don't worry about your class standing. It is what it is. But as Titchou said, it's not at all uncommon for women to enter college technically as sophomores. That's were recommendations and good conversation skills come into play. You can't put on your application "I'm technically a junior, but..." but you can say that in conversation or have a rec writer say it in a letter.

Just wondering if all those credits transferred. Some programs ("CollegePlus!" comes to mind) aren't transferable.

Either way, it's not that unique of a situation.
