Rerush sophomore

Hey yall! I have found this forum so far super helpful! I am a sophomore wanting to go through informal recruitment this semester. I went through informal recruitment in the spring and only went to one of the houses. I did not receive a bid. Should I expect to get dropped from this house in the fall? I am really excited about all the other sororities so it will not be devastating to me if I do get dropped. Thanks a ton!!

There is absolutely no way that we would know the answer. There are a million possible reasons someone doesn't receive a Bid, the biggest is that Informal Recruitment is even more of a numbers game. Be gracious, don't make a big deal about it, and cross your "T"s and dot your "I"s.

You might have not received a bid simply because they only had a limited number of spots available. That's how informal rush works - some groups can take 20 people, some can only take two. Groups usually don't broadcast how many bids they can give out. Without knowing the numbers situation, we can't say what this sorority will do.

If it wasn't anything to do with numbers, it might not have been "no" - just "not right now." Just don't go into that group's party with a chip on your shoulder - approach them in the same open and friendly manner that you use with the rest of the sororities.

Well, in formal rush, they know that you have to be at their first round party - whether you/they want you to be there or not. If you only looked at one group it's not likely that the other 18 will have any opinion of you at all, unless you painted your car in the colors and symbol of the group you did rush or something, LOL.

If you went through informal in the spring and only visited one chapter, it is possible that that chapter only had maybe 2 spots, like 33girl said. My suggestion would be to attend all informal parties in the fall, if chapters have them they will take place before formal recruitment (so before September 5th). Some chapters may also have informal parties afterward, but this is not a definite as most will reach total through formal recruitment. If you do not receive a bid during informal, I would suggest registering for formal and giving that a try. Penn State has 19 wonderful NPC chapters that all have something great to offer. Keep an open mind, do not listen to tent talk or any rumors you may hear, and do not believe anything that is written on any gossip websites. Get to know each sorority and really think through whether you could fit in there. Again best of luck and let us know how it goes!

Welcome to another Penn Stater! I want to thank Knight_Shadow for paging me. What a great guy! Any way, I am a Penn State Alumna who is still very involved with her sorority and the chapter at Penn State (I'll even be there in the fall for initiation). If you have any questions, please let me know. One piece of advice I want to give you and ANY person thinking about going through recruitment is this: KEEP AN OPEN MIND.

I have to admit that I'm excited I can tell another person (who might actually care because she attends PSU) all about Greek life at PSU! If you know anything about THON---joining a sorority is incredible experience at Penn State. If you have any questions-please feel free to message me. I'd love to talk to another Nittany Lion!
